Paris, au soir

Paris at night

In temperate weather
an evening stroll gives a
different perspective.

Chez Gladines - cuisine Basque à Paris

Chez Gladines

This charming bistrot serves reasonably-priced Basque cuisine.
I first "discovered" Chez Gladines, the original restaurant,
on rue des Cinq Diamants in the 13ème.  The food is simple, but delicious.
Be sure to select a dessert while I whisper in your ear....
(crème caramel -or- mi-cuit au chocolat et Piment d'Espelette ).

This lively scene is on Boulevard Saint Germain and
the warm September evening filled all the tables,
 inside and on the terrace.

Le Violoniste

The Violinist

The sounds coming from his violin were clear and mesmerizing.  Asking permission for the photo, he nodded in return.  Clicking twice, I thanked him for his music, dropped a tip, and walked on my way as he gave me the hint of a smile.

I hope that all who passed this corner enjoyed a pleasant break from the noise of the street, replaced by the strains of Bach from this single violinist.

Boulevard Saint-Germain - le marché

Booths along Bd Saint-Germain

The colors in this booth caught my eye,
but it was only just now that I noticed two souvenirs
I should have purchased that day.

I see the vélos in many bright shades and just below...
are those miniature 2CVs*?!

* 2CV = deux chevaux-vapeur

Scouts Guides de France

As I headed out on a Sunday morning in November, I encountered a group of scouts selling Calendrier 2012.  After a long busy day with my camera, I encountered another group of the Scouts Guides de France wrapping up their day of calendar sales.

The one I bought sits in my office
and reminds me of this group of enthusiastic young people.

(Joyeux anniversaire, Nanette!)
