Église Saint-Germain l'Auxerrois

Église Saint-Germain l'Auxerrois

Back when the Louvre was still a royal palace (Palais du Louvre), Église Saint-Germain l'Auxerrois was its church.  The impressive and unique bell tower dates from the 12th century and was the only Romanesque survival.  It was later transformed to the Gothic style in the 19th century.

It does enjoy a lofty view of the Louvre

There was something about this church when I first walked into it ........ I was too busy photographing the inside to take a shot of the tower outside!.

Une église qui ne peut être que romanesque, puisque c'est la paroisse des artistes.

I think a lot of people miss this place because of its close proximity to le Louvre, but it's worth an effort.
