As different as night from day is the Vanves Flea Market.
It sits on the south side of Paris and is much smaller
with many outdoor tables set along the sidewalks.
In order to find the best treasures
you should be there when they open on Saturday/Sunday at 7am.
Yes, that is early!
In order to beat out the serious shoppers
you want to be there within the first hour, or just stay in bed.
This fellow was a bit formidable, and no, I did not buy him.
(I thought that I was going to have to pay to even take a photo!)
I will bring you back here for more stories and photos.

I do love markets like this!! And what a great capture, Genie, however, I think I'll pass on him and see what else they have to offer! Hope you're enjoying your week! It's been a little wild here today!!
Hugs

Dangerous enough to startle even a Bear!
You're wise not to have bought her. Some night, she might bite you in the dark. That would be upsetting.
Now that does look like a fascinating market to visit. Great image of this poor beast. Thank goodness attitudes have changed. I do not like the thought of this these animals being used as decoration.
Je t'aurais bien accompagnée ma chère... Un jour peut-être ?...
Une belle photo...
(le propriétaire de ce stand aurait dû oui, te payer pour une si belle photo!)
Gros bisous.
So glad you mentioned les Puces de Vanves, Genie. Most visitors go to Clignancourt instead. I have not returned for a few years, and will try to do so on my next trip-- but only if I can get there super early, bien sûr. Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)
I like the market, but would never buy this poor beast! brrr!
My favorite weekly brocante market. But I have to ask, is leopard skin even legal to sell?
Teethypegs! (A new word I learnt from Esme and the Laneway)
Oh, that guy looks hot, or does he? ;-)
Just found your blog. I am an anglophile who eventually moved to England and stayed. But I worked in Paris for awhile and adored it. Love your blog and will be back!
oh, my. he is fierce looking.
En tous les cas, bravo d'avoir fait un post sur ce marché aux puces moins connu que celui de St Ouen mais très intéressant quand même !

Great! What a wonderful way to spend a day but knee deep en brocante!
Merci
Not something I would want to stumble over on my way to the bathroom at 4:00 in the morning.
Oh my dear, what big teeth you have!
Oh my! I can't imagine this one getting snatched up at 7am. It does give new meaning to flea market though! Must have been fun to walk through here.
WOW! What a mean looking face! I think I would've wished that I'd stayed in bed than look at this at 7:00 a.m. HA
Fierce, but I prefer them alive. Far from me.
I couldn't have this in my home as a carpet in front of the fireplace?
So sad they are killed for such a silly reason.
The look on his face....reminds me of the reception I get when trying to photograph inside of Parisian Shops!
I would have to want something particularly bad in order for me to be there at 07h00!!!
Something I would expect to see on the Addams Family.
Clueless, you are right! I wouold scream like a little girl if I stumbled over him in the dark!
I think that this fellow had been deceased for years and perhaps even a century. I did not check the price (no need for that!) but I did get the impression that you could see him still on a Saturday morning in Vanves. I think that he is a regular and is not going home with anyone.
Love reading your comments and I will have more to show you of people and brocante from this interesting "marché aux puces"
Bises,
Genie
This is definitely not the thing I should see as the last image before turning in for the night! I am going to keep looking at blogs until I see something bucolic and friendly . . .
Aten't markets, any kind, just the best to get the local flavour? Not that I think that this fellow is very representative ...
I would love to spend the day at a Paris flea market. So many interesting items ...like your spotted friend. He does not look happy about having his picture taken!!
