Urban art
Jérôme Mesnager, born in 1961, is one of the first painters of the streets of Paris, and is known as the father of the l'Homme en blanc, the man in white. This recognizable figure is known around the world and has appeared from the walls of Paris to the Great Wall of China.
Now, with regard to the figure in blue, I am stumped and at a loss to know the artist. Please send me an email or leave a comment if you recognize this intriguing style. With the two figures "floating" together, I wonder if the urban art was created simultaneously or one followed the other.
Update: The figure in blue is by Julien "Seth" Malland
'Julien “Seth” Malland is a world traveling, street painting, socially conscious individual roaming the far places of this planet. Sometimes based in Paris, the street artist took a three year journey around the world to bring his art to remote areas. At different locations he would spend time with the local people, then create cheery pieces displaying children and colors to “liven up” the communities.' (from visual news.com) - Thank you, Vreni

ReplyDeleteI find it quite remarkable that a simple abstract picture of a man in white can become so iconic that it is recognised around the world. A study in effective marketing.
ReplyDeleteNice mural...
ReplyDeleteI would venture to guess that l'homme en blanc was there before and inspired the boy in the hoodie. Intriguing photo ... Makes me want to float away with them.
ReplyDeleteDon't know the artist, but find the drawing very poetic!
ReplyDeleteIt's an interesting design, but I have no idea who'd be behind it...
ReplyDelete:)
ReplyDeleteYes, Jérome Mesnager is easy to recoignize, but I'm lost when it comes to the other one. If I run into Jérome one of these days, I will ask. I'm rather convinced that they made these two swimming guys together. The street artists - like Jérome - often collaborate.
ReplyDeleteI like these a lot!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Marie (though Peter may have a point too). Either way, I love that they are here together.
ReplyDeleteI love it!
ReplyDeleteVreni! you found it... Thanks, and I wish that you had been there with us this November.
ReplyDeletePeter, you keep very good company. Please do ask when you see him.
The swimming effect of these two figures are lovely and I am glad to have found them in a quiet little street off Place de la Contrescarpe.
Bises,
Genie
I'm happy that your research led to a positive result! :-)
