Église Saint-Louis des Invalides

Église Saint-Louis des Invalides
"The Soldiers Church"
 1677

This is a unique church in Paris with its shiny white marble walls
and a glass partition separating it from the dome area
which can be seen on the Paris city-scape.

Although it sits on a major tourist site,
most have not seen nor even heard of this beautiful church.

bon dimanche

  3. It is a beautiful church. Seeing the French flags so prominently displayed inside a church seems a bit unusual.

  4. The separation from the dome area — is that to help keep heat in the building?

    Bon dimanche, Genie.

  5. Une excellent idée pour attraper quelques reflets, en effet, les Invalides...

Les Ors de la Republique sont plus somptueux que ceux de nos anciens Rois détrônés, décidément.

    bises et bon w-e !

  11. Bear, I will have to investigate and get back with you.

    Joe, nor do we!

Jack, I think that the gilt and white marble is lovely, but like you the abundance of French flags is a bit unusual in a church. Actually, there are flags from the back of the church to the front.

Today was another morning to late night Paris day... Holly and I took Velibs from the apartment to the 14ème to meet up with Katie. We got caught on the wrong side of a Paris 10k road race and missed her but will see her tomorrow. While riding back to the 1er we marked off several items on our list and I will be sharing those with you when I return.

This afternoon, Holly and Isabelle ran with a group of people starting Abbesses. I wondered why they picked the most brutal hills of Paris. While they were running, I spent the afternoon with gorgeous blue skies at Tuileries and Parc de Monceau. I have never seen so many people out on a Sunday afternoon, but I still found benches and green chairs to pull up to the basin.

We will head out early in the morning as the weather many be less nice as the day wears on.

Hope that you all have a good week ahead...

    Bises,
    Genie

  12. Magnificent church! I've yet to see a church that isn't beautiful. So many architectural details to take in.

I've been checking the weather in Paris and it seems like it has been a bit rainy and cool. I hope you are enjoying your stay there. I've been thinking of you. :)
