This is one of those Parisian buildings (like Le Louvre for example,) where I have the hardest time concentrating on what it is I am supposed to be looking at (art work; a show...) The building itself is so amazing that is all I notice :-) Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)
The salle de spectacle is very spectacular! Visiting the Opera de Garnier for the first time last summer, I thought this building was really the perfect place for the story of the Phantom of the Opera.
so beautiful .. when i was a kid growing up in the Bronx, there was a theatre called Loew's Paradise. It had a grand staircase, cherubs and stars on the ceiling and lots of red velvet .. this brought back that memory as if it was yesterday and not over 40 yrs .. merci beaucoup
So many lovely images. I had some catching up to do. I love your pictures of the children, of course the black and white pics are great, and the Chartres Cathedral. Thanks for sharing Paris.
Lorre, I have talked with two people this week in Paris who have been to Malta and had wonderful things to say about your country.
Louise, the first time I visited PG this was closed as they readied for a new performance.
Daryl, I'm glad that I could spur your memory like that. I think that the first time I saw the Moorish decor and midnight skies of the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, I felt the same way.
Veronique, I think that the architecture is spectacular and really draws me to Paris.
Vreni, I thought about you today when we saw blue doors galore!
We had our rainy-day plan today with a bit of walking in the light rain and drizzle. We visited and photographed three churches which I had not seen. Along the way we discovered interesting people and pets, and snapped many water reflections on the cobbled streets.
Tonight we invited friends to our apartment for an apéro. It is after 1am and we are ready to call it a day! I will share some photos of our gathering when I return as we had bloggers, expats, and new Paris friends. What fun!
Well, just as your blog title indicates--this is really "beyond"! Not just the theatrical opulence but you blogging away there in Paris! Chanceuse! Bises, louciao xo
We were just here two weeks ago..somehow managed to get two seats to the final dress rehearsal of Balanchine, for patrons only!!! It was spectacular, esp. as there was hardly anyone there. What a magnificent place, and evening!
Wow! This is gorgeous, Genie. Opening a door and seeing this is probably a lot like walking through an entry and seeing Fenway Park! Two dazzling scenes.
It is indeed awesome and so is your capture for the day, Genie! Hope you have a wonderful week, mon amie!!
