Oh, yes! I think you're right!! I like the look of the other bike that the woman is riding! Hope you had a great weekend, Genie, and a wonderful week ahead! And, as always, enjoy!!!
It must be shocking to return and find one's bike thrashed. In this city a bike is the mode of transport for many to get to work each day. Now the e bikes are making an appearance, they are silent and actually travel fast and in the bike lane, it worries me that there may be accidents.
I´m never so elegant when I´m riding a vélib... Unfortunately in Vienna the city bicylces are no such success as in Paris. I own a bicycle but as I fear that it would end like the one in the background of this photo I prefer to not use it in the city.
I just got a new bike !! I am riding it in Brussels but only if I never have to stop ... to avoid what you are showing ( can be extremely tiring endeavor -; )
I wonder if I could balance myself on a bike again... it was so long ago. I doubt I would look as poised and in control of the bike as this lady is!! :) HA ♥♥
We have a similar system here on the Gold Coast, Australia where I live but we must wear helmets. Are we over governed? We are so used to it now that it was surprising to see how much freedom the French had. Maybe their drivers are more courteous.
There is no comparison between a Velib and one of the racers of Le Tour de France. I am certain that I could not even balance on a racing bike!
I have seen many bikes locked without a wheel or two and might be convinced that the owner secured the wheels, but I have never seen anyone walking about with two wheels thrown over their shoulder - hah!
Laraine, you do not see helmets in France although most of my friends wear them in the US. The regulations vary state to state.
To Anni and Vreni, I am sorry to think that you cannot even ride your bikes without worrying that they will be stolen.

Hello Genie

Have a glorious week

Hello Genie:
ReplyDeleteA splendid image. Sadly, pieces of bicycle are often to be found in a similar way all along the Brighton promenade. So very odd!!
What a great shot Genie. There are thousands of pieces of bike like that in our big cities.. We are nor even surprised.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice week
Thanks for your nice words on my last Post. I appreciate them coming from you.
ReplyDeleteI like following you through Paris, veló or otherwise :-)

ReplyDeleteHow courageous to ride a bike in Paris!and even to own one, it seems...
ReplyDeleteHahahahahaha! Funny comment.

Oh, my! Coming out to find the remnants of a bike would certainly be a revolting development! On the other hand, she looks poised and Parisian!

ReplyDeleteMore likely, the owner of the background bike took the tires so the bike wouldn't be stolen. Bike owners do that a lot.
ReplyDeleteStarman has a point—you see that here all the time. But I still got a good chuckle out of your comparison, Genie!
ReplyDeleteI've seen old bikes locked up with all many of parts missing in Paris. Funny isn't it. Also funny is Madame's get up!

I hope the owner of the bike in back took the wheels with him/her!!!
ReplyDeleteNever mind the bike Genie, by the look of the ladies hairstyle it looks like you may have captured a shot of Brigitte Bardot!!

ReplyDeleteInteresting looking bike. Nice b&w.
ReplyDeleteI think the Velib idea is great for those who only need a bicycle occasionally. They look kind of heavy.

What a grand and fun way to navigate the city.
ReplyDeleteThat is a French cyclist if I ever saw one. :)
ReplyDeleteIt really is a great photo!
