Did you know that there was a wax museum in the center of Paris? Musée Grevin was founded in 1882 and now contains some 300 characters arranged in scenes from the history of France and modern life. Its baroque architecture includes a mirrored mirage room based on the principle of a
catoptric cistula and a theater for magic shows.
It has an ornate main entrance on Boulevard Montmartre and another entrance in Passage Jouffroy.
Hummmm.... you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours?

thank you for all that great tipps, next week I come to Paris, every day I m looking your blog because of all that nice places you show us, thank you, big hugh Kathrin
ReplyDeleteNo Genie - I've never heard of this museum, but it would be such a facinating place to visit - maybe I would get to see the real Marie Antoinette!
ReplyDeleteLa photo d'entrée au musée est coupée. Dommage! Le doigt tendu n'indiquerait pas la direction des toilettes "hommes"?...
ReplyDeleteAvoue, Genie, que ce panneau prête à confusion.
The posture of the figure in the tophat would more likely suggest: "Je t'accuse!" Or maybe as Richard suggests, the hand simply points the way to the Gent's W.C. LOL :D Thanks again Genie for a great photo! ^_^
ReplyDeleteHow amazing Genie - I haven't seen it on my travels in Montmartre!
ReplyDeleteMercie mon amie for the heads up!
Shane :))
I like your picture! I visited this museum several times as child and then with my own children. Each time, there was a kind of fear in the air, in front of some old times sceneries, and with all those wax people and their cold glance on you! :o)
ReplyDeleteHaha! Very cool, Genie.
ReplyDeleteVraiment très original cette photo!
ReplyDeletebonne journée Genie
I like the photo! I have never visited the museum and I must put on my list for next time. You were right yesterday in your message left on my blog... we must live 100years to be able to visit all interesting things in Paris!
ReplyDeleteBises Hana
Yes I have visited it long ago when I was with my parents in Paris as a child. Can't remember much of it anymore, only the Passage, it was difficult to find.
ReplyDeleteWonder if the wax works has a likeness of Count Felix de Jouffray-Gonsans?
ReplyDeleteWow! I never knew about that place. The list of places to visit on my next trip grows ever longer.
ReplyDeletean amusing musee entrance.
ReplyDeleteI saw the movie "The House of Wax" when I was in the third grade. My mother forbid me to go, but I managed to see it anyway. She was right - I had nightmares. Thanks for the heads-up. This is one museum I'll pass on. Even that gold finger is frightening. It will give me extra time for the French Impressionists.

So much fun! The great thing about Paris are all these small museums tucked in places you least expect. I can't wait to explore them again, although this one tends t creep me out! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a definite for next time
ReplyDeleteGenie. How funny if it is as simple as the direction to the 'Gents' as Beau Gosse suggested, the French have such a drole sense of humour!!
Great shot. Is this the way the French give you the finger? :)
ReplyDeleteV
That sounds like a fair proposition to me :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great, fun capture for the day, Genie! Would love to visit that Museum. I have heard/read about it somewhere??? You do always have the perfect caption! Hope your week is going well, mon amie! Enjoy!

I am not fond of wax museums (Mme. Tussauds in London was the first and will be the only one I've visited) but I like this shot very much, it's just great, Genie.
ReplyDeleteImagine the French finger pointing! Sounds like a fascinating place to visit. I never knew they had a wax museum?
ReplyDeleteKris
We got a surprise when we were there. Did you have a surprise?
ReplyDeleteWell,I lived in Paris for 10 years, and have been going back once a year since, and still, I have never visited that museum. I guess I will add it to my list then.

What a great sign! I love it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments today. Be well, Genie.
wow, what an entrance. Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteNoooooo I did not knowwwww! But I must gooooo! *winks* Really I will put it on my list of "must sees" on my next trip to Paris. J'adore wax figures! And I also LOVE your photography! Vanna
ReplyDeleteI didn't know! Thanks for telling me! Have a lovely day!
ReplyDeleteLove, Kristin :)
Always kept this musée in the back of my mind... but never actually been ..
ReplyDeletelike the entrance finger..
and the backscratching is such a nice tough.
so glad you like the i-phone shots
(the people on the Belgian beach were runners..!)
Excellent definition! I live the perspective too
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat shot! The hand looks like it's floating in air! I've never been to this museum.
ReplyDeleteBonjour Genie,
ReplyDeleteI had no idea.. It would be a wonderful place to visit. I love the entrance...
Merci for your most welcome visit and kind words.

I love this!
ReplyDeleteFrankly, I am not just crazy for wax museums and this one appeared very mysterious from the outside.
ReplyDeleteThe significance of the hand? I believe that this sign in Passage Jouffroy is pointing to the entrance which is outside on the street (Rue Montmartre). Oh, and Rue Montmartre is in the 2ième arrondissement and not up near Sacre Coeur.
I think that Malyss summed it up with talk of the atmosphere. I have another photo taken of this place and will be saving it for October 31st if that gives you a hint... pretty creepy.
Richard and beau gosse, I am still confused about the small figure here and will have to have another look when I return.... soon.
Bises,
Genie
You are full of interesting info.
ReplyDeleteThis is great shot !! Beautiful !!

Or maybe the message is "Begone!" Have never been to this museum, but it sounds pretty interesting. Thanks for the heads up—and the cool photo!
ReplyDeleteWas it worth the trip? I've often thought about visiting it.
