Playing second fiddle to Sacré-Coeur on the hill of Montmartre is not too bad when you have a perfect Cavaillé-Coll organ. This former abbey became a place of music in the late 17th Century during the years when Renée de Lorraine was abbess. Although not as large as many of the Paris organs, its tradition of music continues the rich heritage of this church on the hill.

Looks like we are on the same page with black and white Montmartre photos. I really like this shot it looks so classic and the organ is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love the contrast in the black and white image here - lovely Genie x
ReplyDeleteGorgeous composition, Genie.
ReplyDeleteThe stool creaked as Vincent made himself comfortable. It was just a rehearsal but the ivory keys and the gleaming pipes still made him anxious. He breathed deeply, raised his hands and came down confidently on a C minor second inversion. Jacques Offenbach would have been proud.
ReplyDeleteVery simple and elegant, both the place and the picture.
ReplyDeleteexcellent choice to do this in b&w, genie.
ReplyDeleteAh this is a calming image Genie, just what I needed after the hectic day, the B&W shows the organ off to perfection.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful picture.
ReplyDeleteLovely light on this organ. I've never seen this church either Genie. Guess I"ve spent too many hours in cafés sipping.......

I like how you've captured this.
ReplyDeleteI have never visited that church in Montmartre. I have just added it to my "to do list" for the next Paris trip. Merci, Genie. Veronique aka French Girl in Seattle
ReplyDeleteBeautiful play of shadow and light, lines and symmetry emphasized by your capture in black and white.

I love your black and white images. They seem to "freeze time."

I am not one for organ music but I do love this photo. Happy Sunday!
ReplyDeleteThere is a circuit of church organs that are used for concerts, but this is not one of them.
ReplyDeleteVery nice tones of colors!
ReplyDeleteVery impressive organ. I would love to hear it inside the church.

I'm in agreement with everyone else, Genie—beautifully composed and perfect in b&W!
ReplyDeleteLovely ... You truly captured the essence of this place of worship!
ReplyDeleteJoe, again you tell a great story to go with the photo... makes me smile every time to "read" the photograph from your eyes.
ReplyDeleteWhen you take as many photos as I do of churches in Paris, sometimes of detail and often a broader image like today's, it becomes a challenge to show you what there was that caught my eye. What is it that makes this place special or different from all the others? It might be the detail, the light, the ceiling, the floor, the architecture, the sounds, the smells... Often, it is simply the "feel" of being there. I am glad that you "felt" it with me today.
Je vous souhaite une bonne semaine.
Bises,
Genie
