Jardin des Tuileries - Pétanque encore

In the evening of our first April day in Paris, Marie and I walked the short distance from the apartment to Jardin des Tuileries for some late sun, pre-sunset photos with Peter of Peter's Paris. You may recall the post a few weeks ago of the Pétanque balls on the ground with deep shadows.

Well, Monsieur is one of the two players that evening. I took this shot through the fence, waved, and asked permission to continue.

He took his Pétanque shot and then faced me fully and blew a kiss... an interesting game, Pétanque.

  10. Oh, Genie, you captured him so well! The profile is perfect and I love his hand gripping the boule. What was I doing at the time that I missed the kiss blowing???? Rats, I should have gotten that photo :-).

  12. I think your pictures of people are my favorites. Every face tells a story. Mpnsieur is trying to concentrate on his shot, but his mind is on the pretty American who smiled so sweetly. Like the little boy on the playground, he wants to nail it because the girls are watching, haha. I'm betting he made it and was greatly relieved since he blew that kiss your way!

  14. I think Peter should reconsider about playing pétanque with the oldies! ha Just think, he could be blowing kisses to eager Americans! HA

  18. Yes, I remember the Pétanque ball shot, I love it. Glad you're showing one of the players and it's a great portrait.

Genie, I know about Kapoor in Paris! A friend just told me the other day: 'Let's go and see it!'... :-) Actually I have like four posts on his work in London on my travel blog. I really love two of them and their cloud reflections.

  20. Can't decide which I like better: the portrait of the intense pétanque player, or the story of his romantic side! Equally wonderful, I'd say.

  27. This is very important in France, serious business!!! With it's own vocabulary, tirer, pointer cochonnet... Are you a tireur or a pointeur, that's the question!

  28. Handsome portrait! Love the game, its fun to play.

  29. Love the concentration. Pentaque or boules as it seems to be called here, is fascinating to photograph. The players get themselves into the most amazing position, bending low to throw. I love that he blew you a kiss afterwards. Bien sur!
