When you first walk inside this magnificent church you are overwhelmed by her size, but as you take time to discover little details you will appreciate the elegance of her accessories.
I love being able to go into a church such as this just to sit for a while to enjoy the silence. A moment of reverence. There are so few still moments in our days that it makes me appreciate the beauty, both seen and unseen.
The expression "God is in the details" would seem to apply here, Genie! I've been blown away by the lighting in churches before, but you really got me this time. Bon dimanche!
Magnifique! The details are exquisite -- and too many to list. Is it the crown-shaped lamps, the leaf detail on the arms or the intricate globes that make the light fixture so unique? Ahh, but it is the angle and the juxtaposition of the lamps and the columns and the ceiling and the arches and the stain-glass windows and ...
This is a wonderfully ornate fixture, isn't it? Alexa's comment about God is in the details got me thinking. The author of the quote is Mies Van Der Rohe, a famous modern architect, and yet his style was very spare in contrast with this more elaborate church and fixture. I wonder what he had in mind.
Louis -- I believe that you are correct and the organ is the largest in all of France (larger than Nôtre Dame)
Euro-Chic -- Often our eyes "see" but the camera lens notices and remembers
(I understand just how one cannot explain the peace and sense of well-being such an experience would bring) -- Wonderful story, merci!
Malyss -- Merci, yes, and the mirror photo gave me vertigo for sure! Have a bonne semaine, mon amie!
Shari -- Merci, nice to see you today, my friend!
Cynthia -- I should definitely make one of those on my next trip!
Jojo -- I always take some moments sitting to absorb the loveliness of the churches... For me, it would seem irreverent not to. Thank you for coming...
Alexa -- I think that is definitely the case here. As I said on my last post, these were the only three hours of sunlight and I an thankful that it was worth spending much of it here taking photos. Merci beaucoup.
Marie -- We'll come here together next time we are in Paris... You would love the organ
Miss Sadie -- Now, I do not know about "favorite" - I have no problem declaring other favorites but selecting the favorite church would truly be difficult. Merci, mon petit chien et bon dimanche à toi.
Virginia -- Merci, V
Kristin -- Merci... have a great week ahead, my friend.
Ah yes St Eustace I remember well. It's in Les Halles, the site of the old market and when we were there Oct 2009 it was dressed in scaffolding while having her make-over! Still awe inspiring nonetheless - I so wish I could pop in there tonight and enjoy illumination! Thank you Genie you made my day! hugs Shane

ReplyDeleteBon dimanche!
Vraiment, Genie!
ReplyDeleteSaint-Eustache is large enough to be a cathedral. If «Louis'» recollection is correct, Saint-Eustache is larger than Nôtre-Dame.
Lovely photo of a detail I've never really noticed myself.

ReplyDeleteRandy -- Oh, I will treat your eyes then on another day...
Dianne -- I have not been there at night but need to do so.
Brittany -- Merci and I totally agree!
Jack -- What a resource you are... Thanks for the author of the quote. I think that the details in this church would be very pleasing to Him.
Shane -- Merci, and it should please you to know that most, if not all, of the scaffolding has been removed. The front looks quite scrubbed.
Sara -- Merci, mon amie!
The bulbs almost look like grapes.
