Marché Maubert - VIII

The oldest street market in Paris, established in 1547, Marché Maubert is open Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.  But, do not be late as the stalls will close by 2:30 or 3, and you will not find the sumptuous stacks of artichokes, leeks, and carrots. There are stands for flowers, rugs, pashminas, fromage, fleur de sel, textiles from Provence, meats, seafood, carry out food (prête à emporter) pour manger sur le pouce.

I have featured this marché before as it was my "neighborhood" for many trips to Paris.  I will visit my friends there very soon, to buy their produce and cheeses, and to take their photos again and to recall the snow and cold of last December and the wonderful weather of my last visit in April.  Of course, I will have some photos in my pocket...

Marché Bastille

From a simple black cardboard box comes an array of color and fragrant blooms elegantly suited for a princess.

One wonders about the buyer and the seller, and just who will be the recipient of a spring bouquet?

Saturday market

The usual crowd shopping in Place Maubert includes pets and acquaintances, exchanging pleasantries. This pup and his family are regulars in the neighborhood. May you enjoy your weekend comme ce monsieur et son chien.

Marché rue Cler -- des legumes

Fresh fall vegetables on Rue Cler....

After a week (eating) in San Diego followed up with a week (eating) in New Orleans, I thought it would be better to go for the vegetables rather than the macarons. Okay, so I am stoic!

(but I'll be back on the pâtisseries et les macarons soon -- miam-miam!)

L'asperge -- Colors of the Market

The street markets of Paris have fresh, regional produce -- beautiful! I love shopping the thrice-weekly markets, selecting just enough for the evening meal, exchanging a greeting as you make the purchase. Steamed asparagus and a few slices of Comté or Morbier with a drizzle of vinagrette, a baguette, un verre de vin... just about perfect. (Don't forget to pick up un macaron or two)

The City Daily Photo community theme for today as the first day of the month is "open air markets" which Eric Tenin explains here. I have already admired many of this talented group's offerings and markets. Les asperges seemed to fit in today with their theme.
