Un jardin secret

2012 Oct 4 Thursday_225DSC_8317

A secret garden

Just off rue de la Roquette behind a closed gate is a hidden artists' atelier,
filled with the sounds of wood planers and the scent of paint.

The paved courtyard provides light into the glassed workshops
and serves as a quiet spot amid the work

Votre lessive?

Laundry day?

No!  This is 59 Rivoli, which is billed as the "cultural alternative in the heart of Paris."  There are 30 artists in studios throughout all 6 floors of 59 Rivoli plus the Galerie 59 on the rez-de-chaussée (ground floor).

Originally, it was a squat started by artists looking for a place to work, live and show.  Now it is legalized and open to the public every day except Mondays.  Not only can you see the artists' work but visit the ateliers where the creations are made.  Galerie 59 has exhibitions running for approximately two weeks at a time with a vernissage open to everyone, usually on the first day of the show.

Réflexions Couturier

The elegant gowns reflected in this designer's mirror are breathtaking
made of the finest silks, dupioni, antique laces, exquisite silk flowers and hand-painted fabrics

We were invited guests
and spent an hour getting to know the amazing artist and creator of these gowns

Soon, I will bring you back to meet her...

L'Atelier - Orla Kiely

Walking with Peter and Marie down Rue Tholozé in April, I captured this shot through the open door of an atelier."  What I did not know from this unasuming scene is that Orla Kiely is an award-winning fashion designer.

I discover much as a detail-oriented photographer.
