It was 6pm, the shadows were long and there I was sitting on the wall again. I had my white jacket so a turn in the weather wouldn't deter me from the wait. She walked passed in a red coat this time last week. Would she emerge again? Could it be her? Suddenly there she was and I was sure.
Great photo. Before I read all the comments, I was thinking a French girl would probably have on higher heels - but at what peril walking on those stones! I'll take the more sensible shoes any day. Holly looks very dashing in her red coat and shades.
My first thought was, Doesn't Genie's daughter Holly have a coat exactly like this one?" I say the backpack adds a certain American chic (yes, that's right!) to the whole ensemble.
Well, as some of you are aware, I am quite close to this non-French girl in the red coat. She cursed the backpack, and I will buy her a more chic replacement before we go again. Virginia was right... she does carry an extra lens, tripod, etc for me.
We have noticed more coats of color (red, mustard, purple, midnight blue, etc.)
You've got sharp eyes Genie. You could have fooled me on first glance. I always try to dress appropriately in other countries. She did a great job of fitting in with the long coat. The red surprised me. I agree with the others. I hope she'll take home a lovely French bag as a remembrance of her trip. Sam
I dunno Genie...with internet shopping...she could very well still be French...or are saying that LLBean just doesn't fit the French style...if that's the case..she's a French girl returning the back pack to the American boy she met at le cafe last night!!!
No question it's a FRENCH GIRL. New York's streets are full of Frenchies scooping up the bargains on one-week junkets. They get much better deals then we do. They arrive with giant empty suitcases and fill them to the brim with Ralph and LLBean etc.

Elegant and confident ~ even with the backpack. Have a beautiful weekend, Genie.

Love that red coat!

You beat me to it about the backpack...she could be from Seattle..see many like here there! Love that red.

The backpack (no style), the red (too daring) coat - no French girl!
Certainement et elle s'appelle Holly! Très, très belle!
If you ask me... definitely not a French gir... Not only French girls have class... How bout Alabama girls?
And Holly's backpack is full of YOUR stuff Genie! HA
The red coat was indeed a hit!

It's the hands in the pockets that does it, and a red coat is always cool! Backpack or no backpack, I must get my red one ready.
Very clever! :)
God bless you!

She may not be French (although, in spite of comments here, she could be) She definitely has style.
...she's French at heart...
I don't care if she is French or Kansan . . . can you introduce me?

And Italian girls? Wish you a nice Sunday.
Amazing where you see LL Bean things! The backpack sort of spoils the chic image!
This occasional series is always delightful, Genie!

Yes, it is time to replace the LLBean backpack.
Bises,
Genie
I'm thinking a black Longchamp bag would be a lovely replacement.

Yes, she certainly has the style ... and I can confirm, not only on photos! :-)

She has the inimitable je ne sait quoi
Yes, she has STYLE, and looks like she is from southern Europe....
