Could I ever have taken this shot anywhere but in Paris?
Non
(but maybe Barcelona, Madrid, Athens, Nice, Milan, Rome, Buenos Aires,
Vienna, Prague, Florence, Zurich, Nice, Antibes, others?)

If you REALLY think the answer is "no", you REALLY need to come on French Riviera! Ü
How lovely to sit in the sun and watch people passing by. Even better when you are in Paris.

Montmartre... Unique!
Et notre photographe s'imprègne de Doisneau.
Bravo, Genie!
Yes, it must be said that you've made a very French picture.
Great shot, Genie. I so want to walk over there, introduce myself and sit down.
Sitting in the afternoon sun and watching the world. A good way to live.
Great shot, Genie.
You could visit me in Luxembourg!!!!
Wonderful shot, I love his hair! :)

That chairs are unique and that scene too. Where is the girl?

it's a beautiful black and white photo!!!
The hair, the black jacket, the "je ne sais quoi" attitude .... Très Parisien! Excellent!
I Like...
I think not, unless it was a photo shoot for GQ.
Beautiful B&W image Genie, it has loads of ambiance!
Great shot Genie. Very French indeed, and a good representation of French people's love for their cafes... Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)
Love it! It's perfect in B&W. :)
Hey Genie...thanks for stopping by ...my browser here at work won't let me reply on my own site...(%%$$##)
anyway...if only I could remember the name of that place...somewhere on a side street near the marche des enfants rouge...it was so brand new that they didn't have a sigh up yet...haha
I absolutely love your latest B&W collection of photos and this one is another terrific one! And SO French! I know that they bring fun memories for me! Enjoy your evening, Genie!

You could get that shot (as you suggested) any where in Europe.
Your subject is a guy, right? You could probably get a similar kind of shot lots of places in Europe, but only Montmartre is Montmartre, so you're right—non.
It's a great b&w portrait!
No. I can recognise it by its Parisian cafe chairs ;)!
Love the photo Genie!
Enjoy your week
fondly,
Penny
Oh Montmartre - such a lovely place. I really enjoyed it - especially the crepe covered with Nutella that I ate at a small restaurant.
Yep, .Doisneau-ish and thus fantastic
The shutters and the chairs are so typically Parisian! Nice capture.
Sorry, I think this photo could be taken anywhere.
The lighting and textures are wonderful, Genie.
What a great find! I love it.
It seems that Virginia and you are competing with black and white portraits of Parisian men. Hers is a waiter, and yours is a [what is one when a flaneur sits and people watches?}
Valery, I think that he was saving that chair for his girl.
Richard, thank you for the Doisneau reference.
I added the other cities after my original posting. When I thought about it, this photo could have been taken in any of these cities. Although I have not been to Nice or Antibes (planning to go!) I have been to the others and noticed people enjoying cafés and the terraces.
One final note... It was difficult to put this in b/w. Why? With the sun shining through that café chair, that ROUGE café chair, it almost looked light a red traffic light with its brightness! If I were talented I would have left it red while the remainder was b/w. Tant pis. Perhaps one day I will learn that technique.
Merci for your thoughtful comments.
Bises,
Genie
Besides Paris I've only been to two of the cities that you mentioned and I agree that this is an excellent Paris/Euro shot! Hopefully someday I'll see all of those cities!
or any little village in France:)
Nice shot, i like it a lot
The chair, the spirit screams France, yes but as Malyss suggests, perhaps it could be elsewhere in France - especially since the background isn't very typical of Paris itself, more of a village house...
Fantastic photo anyway. Great post processing and great choice of b&w.
Lovely lass! I dig that hair style and those aviator glasses-- ruggedly feminine. Like the vignetting--adds element of intimacy.
