La Rentrée

La rentrée, a return to school studies and so much more.
I doubt that any of these young men were sad to return.

C'est pareil partout; la France, les Etats-unis, le Canada.
Delightful picture, Genie. I wonder what's on their minds.

it almost look like you placed them like that on the bench, watching the girls, with a special tree cut off at the right angle

Oh, what a wonderful story you've captured, Genie. Now I shall be singing "Music To Watch Girls By" all day.

Sitting on a bench watching the girls/boys walk past is thankfully a pastime that has no age limit!! Love the dramatic B&W effect Genie, looks timeless!

Fantastic shot! Not only is it technically flawless, the photo itself tells a story. Well done!

Great capture! :-)

Those moments of returning to everyday life after vacation are always bittersweet, aren't they?

They seem to be more "studying" the two girls passing by than making plans about mathematics!..:o)

A beautiful picture again. Last time I forgot to mention A.Kertész. Also a photographer who surely influenced your work.

Universal picture, right?

As Alfred, Lord Tennyson, said, "In spring, a young man's fancy turns to thoughts of love." He obviously didn't live in Paris, where it doesn't have to be spring....

Great shot, Genie. It seems everyone has "la Rentrée" on their minds today ;-) Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)

Yep, I'd say they are watching the parade of young women passing and wondering which one might be the "one". It's hard to keep your mind on your "studies" with so many distractions!

I don't understand why everyone loves black and white. I can't even begin to imagine living in a black and white world. How very boring.

They must have been a wee bit sad to be cooped up in a classroom again, but I bet they are all smiling and happy now, although you can't see their faces.

J'adore cette photo, où on lit toutes les pages du journal intime qu'écrit en secret l'adolescence.
Belle nuit

Ah oui—in Girl Watching 101, they'll all earn an A+!
(As for your young French girl from yesterday: clearly, they're just born chic.)

Wonderful shot. Black and white was the perfect touch.

Oh, yes, Genie, they are studying all right. I studied the same thing when I was their age. Come to think of it, I study the same thing today, I am just more practiced at doing it with my peripheral vision . . .

Jack, I had to laugh when I read your comments. You are too cute.

Genie, this is a great photo. I'll repeat an old cliche - a picture is worth a thousand words.

Joe, I have been humming that old song all day after reading your comment!

Paul and Starman, I know that I can count on you both for stark honesty... merci.

s.c., thank you. I am honored by the comparison.

I think that we all recognize this scene and some of you (Jack) still perfect the technique. The attention was not lost on the teen girls either. This was a split second shot of the moment and I do love when you hold your breath for just that one moment.

Bises,
Genie
