Église Notre Dame de la Croix de Ménilmontant

Notre Dame de la Croix
de Ménilmontant

The late afternoon autumn sun
repeated the stained glass patterns
on the stone arches

Cathédrale Notre Dame de Paris

Notre Dame

If you go to this well-known landmark very early in the morning
when the doors are first opened
(and it is not in the months of March through October),
you can take your time photographing the amazing architecture
and details absent the crowds.
The Cathedral is open every day at 8am
and on Saturdays and Sundays at 7:15am.

Since I did not take my own advice on this particular visit,
you will notice that my photo (and all of the others I took)
are aimed away from the tourists.

Église Saint-Séverin

Église Saint-Séverin

From the ancient windows of the 14th century to seven contemporary abstract windows of the 20th century, Saint-Séverin is a study of contrasts.  The twisted pillars resemble palm trees, and are a fascinating feat of architecture and design, added in 1489.

Église Sainte-Chapelle

Église Sainte-Chapelle

This famous church is known for its stained glass windows,
but the rich jewel-tone colors and detailed designs
are equally stunning.

Église Saint Germain des Prés

Église Saint Germain des Prés

After reading many books on the history of Paris,
I am amazed that there are so many gorgeous stained glass windows left in the churches.

This sixth century church has had a close-up view of war and destruction.
Recent renovations are lifting layers of grime to reveal the beautiful interior.
