Église Saint Philippe du Roule

This photo is yet another view of Église Saint Philippe du Roule showing more of the detail that graces this church built between 1774 and 1784 on the site of a former hospital and chapel.  You can see the photos and links from my previous posts here, here, and here.

It sits across the street from a Métro stop of the same name and a fabulous pâtisserie.
I will even tempt you on a Sunday.

Pâtisserie Hunt - Julien

Julien has beautiful pastries, and in April, Marie and I performed a taste test on la religieuse caramel and a millefeuille pistache which can be seen in the background.

Julien sits just across the square from Église Saint Philippe du Roule. After being reprimanded for taking photos, we made our purchase and took it outside on the terrace for photographing and tasting. The religieuse is two puff pastries filled with a light buttercream (some are filled with Chantilly) and embellished with handmade chocolate and salted caramel. This was divine but may have been surpassed by the millefeuille. Right now I would like a taste of either.

Eglise Saint Philippe du Roule - Illumination

Whether the lighting in the churches is from a natural source filtered through stained glass windows, from an ornate chandelier, or from simple candles, it enhances the architecture and the quiet peace within.

Église Saint Philippe du Roule - le vitrail

Built between 1774 and 1784 by the architect Jean François Chalgrin, this beautiful church is filled with visual treasures. The stained-glass dome with its regal reds and blues is high above the apse.

Église Saint Philippe du Roule

I think that I will never see all the churches in Paris and yet I know that I will never cease to be surprised at the splendor and glory in each. There has been much said about the empty churches, devoid of people. Marie and I found it quite different with people praying at all times of day and days of the week. This church is just across the street from Julian (pâtisserie) and there are more photos to come.

In looking for information on this church in a well-to-do neighborhood, there is concern about maintenance for this and other historical churches in Paris.

Bon dimanche

Happy Mother's Day, Mom!
