I lady from France told me that the french plant geraniums in the window boxes as it keeps the mosquitoes away. I wonder if it's true but the again, who needs a practical reason when they look so beautiful.
Microclimates in cities are extraordinary in their capacity to keep things alive in the winter that should otherwise perish.
This doorway looks very imposing. We love the brass door furniture and, clearly, someone is very particular about keeping it all polished. A closed door always represents a challenge to us........we just want to peek inside!
Betty - I wish that this photo had been taken yesterday (wish I was there!) - Thanks, and I corrected the typo.
Joe, I do not know about the mosquitoes but agree with you!
Dear Jane and Lance, you would be the experts in this area, and I had not thought about the microclimates in cities. Truly, the geraniums are always blooming, and I have even seen them covered in snow.
Revrunner, there are certainly florists on almost every corner in Paris, but as Jane and Lance said, the microclimate of Paris likely keeps these flower boxes protected. The temperature of the building is much warmer than the reported outdoor temperature, perhaps just warm enough to keep them from freezing.
Nat, I agree, and you do see so many pink and red ones all over Paris. On occasion you see orange ones, too.
Aimee, you would love the red ones!
Alexa, yes, what a great day for walking and shopping and shooting!
Jane Jazz, I loved that little bit of detail as well. There is just so much to see surrounding these doors.
Debs, I wish that I had window boxes, and someone to maintain them.
Looks lovely, was that taken yesterday?
ReplyDeleteThings have finally warmed up here...
(BTW it's "fleurs.")

I can't even begin to understand how people are able to keep flowers blooming in winter. Secret greenhouses? Florists around the corner?
ReplyDeleteA beautiful doorway! So lovely to see flowers in the depths of winter - a splash of vibrant colour :-)
ReplyDeleteSo pretty. Everything looks better topped with a bunch of pretty flowers
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful entrance!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! I recognized this right away—just down the block from Diptyque's flagship store at #34.
ReplyDeleteA delightful splash of dappled sunlight further enhances this already beautiful portal, and I love the circular grills in the doors, Genie!
ReplyDeleteThat is so lovely!
ReplyDeleteI just love geraniums in window boxes. :)
ReplyDeleteNice light and entry.

So many gorgeous doors and window boxes in Paris, but this one's a particularly pretty combination, dear Genie. Bon dimanche. :)
