Avenue de la Grande-Armée
Seen from the top of Arc de Triomphe
the Grand Arch appears as the outline of a box.
It was built in 1989 to celebrate the
200th anniversary of the French Revolution.
The Arc de Triomphe is a part of the straight line along which one finds:
the Louvre, Place de la Concorde, Arc de Triomphe,
and finally la Grande Arche de la Defense.
The distance from the photo's vantage point
to the Grand Arch is about 3 miles.
The entire distance of the "perspective royale" is over 9 miles!

Bonjour Genie,
ReplyDeleteLove the photo of the City and from such a birds eye view.
When we over one July had planned to go to the top, but the queues were so long.
Happy week
hugs
Carolyn
Amazing overview, it's a fantastic picture!

What a fantastic birds eye view of Paris. I've been to Paris twice and never made it to the top of the Arc De Triomphe. I'm embarrassed to say that on the first occasion I was one of those mad tourists who tried to cross the road unaware that there was an underpass. Cringe. I live to tell the tale.
ReplyDeleteHow did you get the sun and clouds to cooperate? Terrific shot and explanation. Want to play along with Dreaming of France today? Here’s my Dreaming of France meme
ReplyDeleteI did not remember the Arc de Triomphe was so high! Great perspective!
ReplyDeleteParis has to be one of the most beautifully designed cities in the world ..I'm sure you feel the same Genie, spectacular views all around.
ReplyDeleteis this from our visit? wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI love this! Now I wish I'd taken the time to go up there!
ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not, I"ve never been to la Defense. I need to fix that!

I've never been to La Défense either. Shame on me. And shame on whoever built that too-tall building on the right and threw off the otherwise wonderful symmetry of your excellent shot!
ReplyDeleteI was there.. Great photo.. Thanks for the comment. I will get you on my sidebar. Thanks yvonne
ReplyDeleteI was there a few weeks ago ,, thought it was great and then to see the other Arc at the other end too :-) ,,,
ReplyDeleteGenie! BONJOUR! What a gorgeous view to take in on this gray day. To dream in French...quel rêve! Anita
ReplyDeleteI never did make it to the top of La Grande Arche!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful view and photograph! Nine miles. One of these days, i'll see it in person! :). But until then, i have your magnificent photography to show me the way. :)
ReplyDeletePaulita, it was an "interesting" sky with pockets of rain in/around Paris. The photo does not do the colors justice.. thanks
ReplyDeleteMalyss, Joe, Daffin, and Jeanie... It is 284 steps to climb to the top and the views are stunning all around. It is 164 feet high (49.5 m)!
There is an elevator but it is reserved for the pathetic and pitiful (just kidding). I have climbed the steps twice, but did once ride to the top at the end of a very long, active day.
Starman, I hope that you will go back and take the elevator.
Bises,
Genie
