Canal Saint-Martin
Along the canal you find many pedestrian walkways,
arched high over the canal to allow for passing boats.
Although I have never taken the trip, many report that a leisurely excursion on Canal St. Martin gives a different view along the quais. My friend Marie and I watched this boat pass through the locks on a bright Sunday afternoon. On canal Saint-Martin alone there are seven bridges, the majority of which are passerelles piétonnes (footbridges).
They all have names and I will have to search to put the proper name and location on this one. It is very close to Hotel du Nord on Quai de Jemmapes.

Hello Genie:
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea to take a trip through some of the canals. You must do it one day! We did something similar in Bruges, a little touristy perhaps, and enjoyed it immensely.
J'aime beaucoup...
ReplyDeleteBelle journée,
Pierre
I plan to go here on a Sunday too!!! (I leave this Saturday in fact and will arrive in London first..not long now). I am reassured that it will be good now that I've seen it on your blog :)
ReplyDeleteIt's dark here under the bridge, away from the light of day. The metal creaks, the graffiti shrieks while the water lap, lap, laps at the banks.
ReplyDeleteAnd, oh, what a lovely Sunday afternoon it was! Great capture of the boat as it had gone under the bridge.
ReplyDeleteI'm sad to see grafitti there..
ReplyDeleteI like b&w for this picture. I agree with Malyss,it's a pity to see that grafitti.

One of the things I need to do is go on a boat on the Sena River.

Interesting view! I wonder why there is so much grafitti in Paris? :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind comments today. I am working long days on the west coast this week and what a delight it is to read what my friends had to say.
ReplyDeleteI do think that this trip is less touristy than the Seine cruises. There is one of these trips that take you into the underground passages of the canal. Would that be like the "tunnel of love?"
I hate seeing the graffiti everywhere. You will find this odd when you see what I post for Thursday! I do like "street art."

Walking along the Canal St. Martin is a great way to spend an afternoon....or evening. Especially with all the new cafes and bistrots that have popped up recently.
ReplyDeleteOn all my visits to Paris, I have never associated the city with canals...in fact I can't remember having seen a canal there. Thanks for the info and the continued photos. Bises.
