One never knows what one can find at a Paris street market...
Perhaps a book of Beethoven Sonatas or Alkan's Le Chemin de fer?
I would have snatched up Chopin's Polonaise in A flat Major, Opus 53
When I was walking that Sunday on a narrow street, I could hear strains of piano music from an accomplished student. The long passageway amplified the tones to a dreamlike state, and I felt that I should tiptoe so as not to break the spell.

Gros bisous, je vous souhaite beaucoup de bonheur et de santé en ce jour de 1 mai.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me that I have some photos to - possibly - show from Rue de Rome, full of music shops, instrument makers... where I recently bought some books on sale, now desperately trying to play a small part of them. (It was certainly not me playing that you heard!)
ReplyDeleteI'm not, but I'd like to be.
ReplyDeleteOui. I'd have stopped to secure some treasures, absolutely. A beautiful find, Genie, and how serendipitous that you were accompanied on your journey that same day in such a lovely way.
ReplyDeleteI'm graduated in Fine Arts and my main musical instrument is the piano!
ReplyDeleteby the way, I miss my piano a lot, it is in my mammy's house in Brazil!

Hello Genie:
ReplyDeleteHow absolutely wonderful. And how we should have wished to gather up sheet music from an outside market such as you show in this splendid image. Sometimes, when walking near the Music Academy, here in Budapest, we hear the students practising, the strains of which drift down to the pavement through the open windows.
Thank you so much for the comment which you left on our latest post, and to which we have replied, and for becoming a Follower. We are delighted to have you.
And, also, thank you for your email to which we will reply later on today.
i just finished reading a biography about the young lenny bernstein and how he worked and saved to buy music scores.
ReplyDeleteYour post reminds of the day I heard a very accomplished pianist playing through an open window while I was staying with a French family in the Marais. It's very magical to hear beautiful music so unexpectedly.
ReplyDeleteI's actually go with Campagnoli's amusements
ReplyDeleteGreat selection!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful sensation that must have been. Those piano books are exactly like the ones I used to study on. Small world.
ReplyDeleteLove to have a rummage through the sheet music. Bach's Well Tempered Clavier must be in there somewhere.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you portray the music books! I would like to go there someday and pick up some music for my pianist.
ReplyDeleteI've had similar experiences in other cities. Music does transport one to another plane.
ReplyDeleteParis street markets are fabulous I agree Genie, so many treasures.
ReplyDeleteOh, I do. But I have never played anything by Campagnoli!
