Parc Monceau - le carrousel

The new and delightful carrousel at Parc Monceau has a varied choice of rides...

I was a bit partial to this little yellow plane, a sturdy vintage model,
but it would have been a bit too small for me.

  1. I love carousels and rode them every chance that I got when I was a little girl -- I still would! Terrific capture of a really beautiful one! Have a great week, mon ami!

  2. Hello Genie:
How we delight in such things. This looks to be what we should call a 'ride' of the kind which, when we were children, were very popular at fairs but then seemingly went out of fashion. Today, or so it would seem, people wish to be scared. Not us!!

  6. When I was a kid I had so much fun fun riding the carousel. In Canada we used to call them merry-go-round.

  7. It looks like a very magical carousel. I'm sure the yellow plane would be just the right size.

  8. I do hope that you found a beautiful steed to take a spin on the carousel.

  10. Nice photo of course, as usual, but miss a bit the old wooden horses which seem to disappear.

  11. Very colorful. I bet the kids are drawn to this. If I were a child the colors alone would make me want to take a ride... or two...or three!

  12. Bonjour Genie. I love the airplane too! So colorful and realistic (well, except for the size, bien sûr... ) You are right about staying away, though. Nothing more embarrassing for a grown up than trying to fit inside one of these cute carrousel rides and finding oneself "stuck" inside. Now THAT would make for a great shot, wouldn't it?? :-) Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)

  13. Oh man, this was already there when I was living rue de Logelbach, right in front of the main entrance of this park in 1984-5. And I remember some very old postcards showing a carrousel in the park as well, in the 1930es.

  14. I'm back from the "Internet-free zone"—and catching up with my pals' posts! (Your shot through the window yesterday was brilliant.) The plane is adorable, but I
always want a horse, preferably one that goes up and down.

  15. I walked past the carousel in Bushnell Park a few days ago, but no one was using it and the attendant was standing around looking bored. I must try it again.

  16. Jane and Lance, there is either a revival of carousels in Paris or they have always been crazy for these beauties... to my delight!

Jack, I would like to see that one

Alexa, I have been away as well and barely hanging in there...we will catch up

Veronique, I am sure that if I got stuck one of my friends would be there to photograph me... Peter?

I do love the very old wooden ones and hope to actually get inside that museum on my next trip!

    Bises,
    Genie

  17. J'ai hâte que mon petit-fils ou ma petite-fille soit en âge de faire quelques tours de manège...
    Belle photo.

  18. My big girls so loved the carousels when they were younger. They're all a bit big for them now, but Florence will be asking to go on one soon I am sure!
