Superb image, beautifully composed to show the height and grandeur of the Basilique. I'm impressed Genie, would you really abseil down such a high building? I think it would be the most incredible experience but I'll let you tell me about it oui!
That is a beautiful basilique and the stained windows are magnifique. I love your idea of showing churches on Sunday. I might copy that one day. Have a nice Sunday
It's the history of the first Bishop of Paris, St Denis that inspired us to visit the Cathedral. The myth of St Denis with his head in his hands after being decapitated and walking to his resting place is worth the visit.
Beautiful Genie... now is that perhaps from a certain day back in December that I remember well ??? What a heavenly view of those soaring columns and all that gorgeous glass !
Bon dimanche to you too Genies. Thanks for this gorgeous shot. I've definnitely got Basilique Saint Denis on my list for my next visit to Paris.
I found a new to me photo blog this week, and she also visited Saint Denis recently= thought you would enjoy it too http://52suburbs.com/2012/04/13/saint-denis/

Owen, yes you were our guide and how wonderful to meet you and your sweet wife (in January). We did some serious "snapping" that day and look forward to our next meeting.
Leon and Sue, the St Denis history is all over Paris and I will have another photo next Sunday from a different church.
For all of you, if you are in Paris, this basilica is worth the short Métro ride and you will discover much more in the area surrounding the church.
Louise, that link has great coverage of St Denis and some wonderful photographs. Although we were there for about 8 hours we knew that it was quite different from Paris, different in a great sense, and we met many kind people along the way.
Certainly one of the best shots I have seen from this basilica! You really managed to capture the glory, the hight... of the gothic! (If you consider that "gothic" initially was a negative judgment on architecture!)
How magnificent. I don't think that word comes close to a good description. Divine, maybe? :) Splendid Sunday to you too, Genie..

Magical!! I just love the French cathedrals -- in the 90s, we spent two long vacations in France on photo shoot pilgrimages ---sigh---
