In the search for the perfect, very best eclair in Paris we discovered (for the moment) our favorite(s) at La Maison du Chocolat. We had to have a caramel au beurre salé also, bien sûr!
The chocolate was rich, and the pastry was still firm, not soggy from the cream filling. Fortunately for our waitlines, we had to walk to get there and back. It is a chocolate eclair like this that makes me want to hide in the corner and devour it all!
Do not try this at home.

Oh yum!
ReplyDeleteAh, les eclairs! Delicieux! I can never find the right filling here in Seattle, even at the local French boulangerie! How lucky you are. Salted caramel - my favorite flavor ever - to boost! Amuse-toi bien, Genie. Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)
ReplyDeleteJe souris, car en ce moment dans mon four est en train de cuire ma pâte à choux pour des éclairs !!!
ReplyDeleteAssociation formidable de votre photo aux odeurs qui se répandent ici, dans ma cuisine...
Gros bisous
Martine Alison-- Tu livres a l'etranger? Je t'envoie mon adresse? :-) Veronique
ReplyDeleteoh sweet and yummy!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be hungry all night thinking of les eclairs. Genie: it's not fair of you to post such pictures when the world is going to bed!
ReplyDeleteOh, yummy indeed!! I'll dream about these tonight!! Have a great day! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteHugs

This pix reminds me not to view your blog before breakfast! Have a nice day Genie!
ReplyDeleteHmmm such a delicious idea for the day! BONJOUR!!!!
ReplyDeleteLéia
Sublime, hope the coffee was as perfect as the eclairs!
ReplyDeleteRuby
I have a full cup of coffee and those are looking mighty good!
ReplyDeleteThey look exquisite ... And in their own individual boxes??? You know that I would have to eat the caramel one but then I would be dying for a taste of the chocolate ... so, I would share half and half (as usual)! Your day sounds delightful and I can't wait for red lock details! Gros bisous!
ReplyDeleteEclairs are my husband's favourite "finger food" to to have with coffee. You appear to be having a great time in Paris.....so when are we having a rendez-vous in Paris? Food, camera, great company..........
ReplyDeleteBisous
ah, now i feel certain your traveling companion's heart is truly won over. how clever of you to teach him about paris through his stomach.
ReplyDeleteI must say enjoying eclairs vicariously is not quite the same as the real thing!
ReplyDeleteTo Martine - ditto the question from Veronique/French Girl in Seattle!
PS - Two years ago my husband and I were in Paris on this day celebrating our anniversary. This year a downtown Charleston resto will have to suffice.
ReplyDeleteI'll have both! :) I recognize the cups from Hôtel Koco!

I'm with Virginia. Live it up.
ReplyDeleteCould you even stop with one? I couldn't! HA
ReplyDeleteFabulous...my mouth is watering!!!! Enjoy, and thank you for sharing, chere Genie :) Can't wait to see what's next!
ReplyDeleteA dear friend just left for Paris this morning...I will be thinking of you both and DREAMING....
Bisous,
- Irina
Going to France in a week, we WILL have a couple of them!!!
ReplyDeleteThe blue sign on my stressful post means it's a one way street
I'm wondering if a salted caramel éclair might actually trump a salted caramel macaron. Only one way to find out for sure—right, Genie? Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteSeriously?! You are killing me! Oh which one would i adore most? Of course i'd have to have both. Not good for my downsizing efforts though. Oh well, i say! :D
ReplyDeleteI love sweets, but I´m not really into éclairs. Nevertheless I envy your being in Paris rigth now with boulangeries on nearly every corner.
ReplyDeleteLooks delicious! I am trying so hard to resist such temptations ;-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great effort we made today... Five churches starting with Saint Chapelle, then Notre Dame, St Julien Le Pauvre, St Severin, and Ste. Etienne du Mont!
ReplyDeleteWe continued our pastry hunt with milles feuille (large and delish), and two eclairs (pistache and café). My husband does not drink coffee but he sucked that one down with some little sighs. We did walk for miles today to make up for our excesses.
We took a train to a lovely little ville, Garches, where our sweet friend Isabelle lives to see her new apartment and catch up with her. We had a great dinner there and wearily took the train back to St Lazare and then a quick Metro back to the apt.
I still have the red lock, but tomorrow is another day!
Bises,
Genie
Du chocolat, des éclairs... une grande tentation.
ReplyDeleteBisous de l'Italie.
Erika
Well, Genie, you photographed the tableau nicely, but I am afraid that eclairs are just not my cup of tea. Too rich! Have fun on the trip.
ReplyDeleteI must try the caramel au beurre salé! I'm practically drooling just thinking about it! :)
ReplyDeleteOh I think you've found the perfect eclair already! My son was 9 when we visited Paris in 2010, and he went on an eclair hunt. La Maison du Chocolat eclairs were definitely the adult favourites. OMG so incredible! It sounds like you're having an amazing time.
ReplyDeleteI must go to this place with my kids. And they really look like luxurious hotdogs :-)
ReplyDeleteThese look to be perfection! Drool...
ReplyDeleteThe eclairs look divine! I am more of a macaroon girl myself. Having said that I wouldn't no to one. Tres beau!
