Carrousel XIII - Place Prosper Goubaux

This previously unnamed (by me) carrousel was closed for repairs in April.  I arrived there to capture a warm weather scene of riders, but found it covered.  The workmen said "non" when I asked to photograph inside, but at least I found the name for this merry-go-round, "Les Anges Volants."  Oh, I will show you the forbidden photos another time.

If you have been reading my blog for a time, you know how I seek out carousels.  I am linking today to Alexa's The Road is Mine as she has a fabulous carousel which has an amazing story of rescue and restoration.

  1. You managed to compose a beautiful scene, the light on the person to the left, the mysterious backlit fake window frames, very compelling to find out what's behind the scenes!

  4. To quote myself (!)...

"Her eyes were closed like a carousel at midnight."

  5. It's also interesting to see how a carousel can be "closed"!

  6. Bummer you couldn't take a picture inside, but I still love this.

The link to Alexa's The Road is Mine is AMAZING! the colours and lighting.

Made me see carousels in a completely different way.
    Thanks

  12. Your blog, along with Eric's PDP and Alexa's The Road is mine, are the first 3 pages I read every morning!
And today, I had 2 carrousels for the price of one, lucky me!!
    Mon "manège" favori.

  13. I love the old ornate ones but these that you find on the street with the loud music don't "float my boat" so much. Oh look, now I"m sounding like a curmudgeon! HA

  14. Looking forward to seeing the 'forbidden' photos Genie, is this how they would keep them covered also in Winter to protect the colours?

  15. What a terrific capture, Genie! I love carrousels, didn't realize they could be closed up like this!! Surely makes sense! As always, I love the B&W, your composition, the shadows! Have a lovely evening, mon amie!

  17. I can't believe they wouldn't let you take pictures inside. Did they think you were going to steal their manège secrets?

  18. I cannot believe that I did not even see 1 carousel when I was in Paris.

  19. Just because the workers said "non" does not mean I did NOT take any photos... I snapped about 5 before they could come off their ladders and chase me. (kidding)

I know when to exit, bien sûr!

  21. Quel dommage that this manège wasn't up and running but good for you for getting some pix anyway. Sometimes being sneaky and/or playing dumb are the way to go, I've found. :~} Merci beaucoup for linking back to Jane's Carousel, mon amie!

  22. I like this in black and white. Gives it an extra something I think you wouldn't have in color. :)

  23. I had a friend who loved carrousels and was looking to purchase a horse from one. I loved riding them as a child and find that there aren't many like the ones I rode as a child left.

  24. A most intriguing post! You've definitely made us want more...

  25. This still made for a great b&w. I would like to think this man walks by and remembers better days.

  26. Marylène, merci mille fois... tu es si gentille.

Martine, merci pour la photo que tu m'as envoyé!

Starman, I think that they were just cranky and not happy to see a woman with a camera... got it anyway

I have already posted a photo on this carousel with 2 precious little sisters riding in a car... I will return again

Randy, I am glad you noticed the gentleman as he at least put some life into this covered carousel.

I hope that each of you were able to look at Alexa's wonderful photos of the "rescued carousel"

    Bises,
    Genie

  28. You're right; Alexa's carousel is fantastic. Love those hand-carved horses. Another blog to follow...thanks for the link.

I like the image of the man walking away..it gives finality to your refusal to peek inside!

  29. Pet, I look forward to that post!

Kate, if he had been the one who said "non" I would have run in just as he was leaving. I do love that NYC carousel Alexa posted.
