Qu'est-ce que c'est?

This is an interesting arrangement seen in a window

on Rue Saint Paul in the Marais

  1. Qu'est-ce que c'est? Interesting! Clever!

Do you do know that these are little artist mannekins? You can pose their little arms and legs to any position to assist in drawing the figure.

  2. Shelley is right; I guess those ones are supposed to give a kind of summer and beach pleasure mood...

  3. Wooden mannekins making "leche-vitrine"? :-) Have a nice day !

  4. Yes an original way of presenting a beach scene. Specialy the tall one with the ball.

  5. Mon Dieu! Where is Gepetto when you need him? Interesting photo.

  6. As a commentator states, they're for figure artists. I love how you can find almost any size in Paris. Adore!

  7. an artist dreaming on holiday at the beach.

  8. Artists mannequins they may be, but to my eye they are very reminiscent of the Terracotta Warriors. All that is missing is a horse ...

  9. Shelley -- I have one "running" in front of my paint brushes... both need dusting!

Malyss -- That's it! I could not figure out (a pun - hah!) what the guy on the right was doing with the ball. The one right behind him has his head tilted "watching"

o2 -- Yes, they are looking at me looking at them behind the vitrine... bonne journée, mon amie!

biebkriebels -- I should have noticed the sand... the guy on the right looks like he is having trouble

Joe -- Hummm... I was looking for the Pinoccio nose - hah!

Jojo -- The beach scene is more simplistic than I would have thought for a Paris window

AA -- I bought mine a long time ago and used him to keep me company in my studio/office

brattcat -- Good answer, and perhaps they are dreaming of Paris Plage later in the summer

Julie -- I saw a special on the terra cotta warriors just recently and I can see the resemblance of the scene

To all -- I am having Blogger problems staying signed in on IE8 and having difficulties in making comments at all

  10. I'll venture it's a art store. THere was one near our apt. and we bought Miss Eva a precious artist's smock! :)

  11. Book him, Danno! Wondering if the one with his hands on the hood is being arrested.

  12. I think they're embarrassed at being naked in a store window.

  13. Yep! I think Starman may have something -- do hate being caught naked in a store window -- particularly when I'm trying to shop! Fun shot for the day, Genie! Enjoy!

  17. I'm pretty sure I saw this very display when I was there in March. But did I take a picture of it? Apparently not. So good for you, and thanks for sharing! :~}

  20. Virginia -- I think that you are correct... wish I had bought one of the little guys in front!

Rob -- Best comment! I think yours is closer to the truth... I was not buying that beach scene concept... hehehe

Starman -- Okay now we're cooking... They are pretty generic

Sylvia -- Glad you like it, mon amie, with or without clothes!

Jean -- Funny play on words in English... window "dressing"

Loree -- Yes, it is almost as if a kid set up this display

Amanda -- C'est vrai, mon amie

Alexa -- I think that I perceived someone (persons) staring at me as I walked by the window... hehe

Chieftess -- Yes, but for me it was just as a little studio companion

Jack -- If he was any good he would be doing them on the ground with one hand behind his wooden back - hah!

  21. LOL at Rob!

When «Louis» lived in Paris, he lived around the corner and a couple of blocks down from rue Saint-Paul, on rue Saint-Antoine...
