Hmmm! I'm not sure Genie, I think I would have had to try one of those delightful looking 'little piggies'. Hope you are having a great week end. Best wishes Grace
How cute! I have never seen anything like the piggies. Yesterday, in the last box in the garage I found all my French recipes from when I took lots of cooking lessons at different places in Paris (when we lived there 10 years ago)...time to start cooking again.
It wasn't so much that we resisted temptation --- it was more that we were already stuffed from earlier indulgence! They are very cute and unique. Bises.
The first time I was in Europe....many, many moons ago...I was sure I was going to gain weight because I did not hold back...I would have tried one of each, and then had the macaron!!! I actually came back having lost 5 pounds...I figured it had to do with all the walking I did!!! (And of course, the fact that I was only 30 at the time had nothing whatsoever to do with it!!!)
@Jean...I believe there's a diet book that is titled French Women Don't Diet...or something to that effect...the premise is that their proportions are much smaller (like half what we tend to eat here in the states) and they walk everywhere....
I also saw a documentary once about cheese...they compared American cheeses with French cheeses and the digestibility in mice...the french cheeses were digested thoroughly...due to little or no processing as we have here in the states...we also have allowed literally thousands of chemicals in our "system", whereas, European countries allow far fewer...toxicity levels are a big part of what is stored in our big ol' fat cells!!!
When she was little, my daughter Kate used to collect all things "cochon." But when we were last in Paris, she opted for macarons too. (I'm sending her a link to this blog post though!)
megi -- I like macarons, too! Have a wonderful day
Grace -- I probably would have gone for the chocolate but they were cute!
Shelley -- Moi aussi!
Richard -- Nous n'avons pas les essayé sauf avec nos caméras... bon weekend à toi, Richard
Suzi -- I did not notice the macarons here although they would certainly be an item on their offerings
Pierre -- J'adore Toutes les pâtisseries... Bon weekend!
Shell -- Well, I do not think that we were disciplined but already full from lunch!
Malyss -- You will have to tell me how they are made and what is inside, mon amie
Vreni -- I am surprised that our paths have not yet crossed in Paris... You are right, Maison Collet!
Léia -- Someone will have to tell us as we did not eat one, but now I am hungry and it really does look tasty!
Kate -- Oh, you give me too much credit here! hah!
Ciel -- Merci, mon amie!
Andy -- Me neither! These are cute however!
Jeanne -- Hah! One aspect of being on vacation in Paris is that you can rationalize eating BOTH!
Carol -- Ewwwww, I hope not! I agree however that French pastries are just delicious and beautiful!
Saeid -- Merci, and thank you for your comment... come often!
Birdman -- Miam-miam!
Nadege -- I have not seen a "mouse pastry" but will start looking! Merci, mon amie!
Virginia -- We will have to have one on the next visit just to satisfy our curiosity, all in the name of science, of course!
Liz -- Most French pastries are as good as they look. My only disappointment is a French meringue which is a huge mountain of overly dry, crumbling hard sugary meringue. I thought it would be like "forgotten cookies" but it was not. I could not even eat it which is extremely rare for me!
Clueless -- The chocolate with powdered sugar would probably win me over also
classic•casual•home -- Well, I hope that you will not be required to do much cooking over the next several weeks... just enjoy the divine foods of Paris and France!
Jack -- This little piggy squeeled Oui, Oui, Oui... all the way home!
Marie -- Yes, you are telling the truth... we were not even tempted to buy one for later! Bises
biebkriebels -- I would think that the "body" is marzipan but I am not sure about the filling
Vreni -- You helped jog my memory, mon amie!
Anni -- I have not had marzipan in some time but think I should try it again
Starman -- I am going to remember this and will use it for justification for "pigging" out on my next trip - hah! Merci, mon ami.
Chieftess -- I have not ever gained weight on a trip to Paris for that very reason. Also, when you are trying to see and photograph so very much, it is not like you are lolling about eating all day - hah!
Jean -- They walk everywhere and just for the record... they are not all thin (don't tell)!
Chieftess -- You are right about the book. I did not know that about the cheeses... must go back for scientific research!
Stan -- Merci, and yes, I did resist these little piggies
Alicia -- The French pastry chefs are quite creative and if you ate many of these it would be quite difficult to "walk off!"
Dianne -- You are too funny, mon amie!
Abby -- Merci, and those little tails are cute too!
Alexa -- I hope that Kate will stop in to see the piggies... Tell her that I approve of her selection of macarons...
Joop -- Merci, and I think that it is hard to go wrong with pastries in Paris.
Hi Genie, I came over from Randy's blog for a visit. I've never been to Paris... though there are a lot of place I've never been- but I think I'd consider traveling there just for these pastries! :)
Oh, you would love the art, the sculptures, the architecture, the parks with wild animals (seriously), the museums, and photographing all the people. Thanks for your comments and I hope that you will visit here often! Merci...
Dear Genie,
ReplyDeleteI like Macarons.
Have nice day.
greetings
Megi
Hmmm! I'm not sure Genie, I think I would have had to try one of those delightful looking 'little piggies'. Hope you are having a great week end.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Grace
I would have had a hard time resisting the chocolate thingies! The piggies are almost too real looking!
ReplyDeleteC'est beau et...hmmmm.... Ca doit être bien bon.
ReplyDeleteBon week-end, Genie!
Everything is so fabulous in those windows and these are no exception.
ReplyDeleteI am with you - Macarons - bring them on
J'adore ces pâtisseries !
ReplyDeleteBelle journée...
Pierre
Those are sweet little pigs. I'd be much happier eating one of them than a real one. You're very disciplined, saving those calories, Genie.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite pasteries. O my God, I got more weight ONLY when looking at them! :o)
ReplyDeleteDid you take this picture by any chance at Maison Collet in Rue Montorgueil? This is where I saw some very similar cochons.
ReplyDeleteHmmm looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteLéia
You must have self-control and a will of iron. Who could resist??
ReplyDeleteCute!
ReplyDeleteGenie, I never thought my sweet tooth would ever be attracted to little piggies.
ReplyDeleteThat chocolate one might have swayed me away from a macaron. YUM!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if they taste like bacon.
ReplyDeleteFrench pastries...heaven!!
Sounds delicious
ReplyDeletemmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
ReplyDeleteI used to eat "mousse pastries" when I was a little girl. I have never seen "pig pastries".
ReplyDeleteI'm with Shelley...the chocolate thingies. Wonder what was in the piggies? :)
ReplyDeleteV
How cute, and I bet delicious! Love French pastries. Are they as good as they look?
ReplyDeleteThose little piggies do nothing for me, but I would try one of those little chocolate powdered things.
ReplyDeleteHow cute! I have never seen anything like the piggies. Yesterday, in the last box in the garage I found all my French recipes from when I took lots of cooking lessons at different places in Paris (when we lived there 10 years ago)...time to start cooking again.
ReplyDeleteMmmmm. Nice! It reminds me that it is time to have lunch.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't so much that we resisted temptation --- it was more that we were already stuffed from earlier indulgence! They are very cute and unique. Bises.
ReplyDeleteNice piggies, marzipan I suppose? The curly tails are so cute.
ReplyDeleteOh oh, I read the caption only now. Maison Collet as I supposed...
ReplyDeleteI am not a marsipan fan, so prefer to ljust ook at these piggies
ReplyDeleteWith the amount of walking you do in the city, you could probably have had a dozen of these and a box of macarons, and still lost weight.
ReplyDeleteThe first time I was in Europe....many, many moons ago...I was sure I was going to gain weight because I did not hold back...I would have tried one of each, and then had the macaron!!! ReplyDeleteDelicious is the word to describe the picture. Why are there so many women in France that are so thin(skinny)? Do they just look and not eat!

Sieht ganz lecker aus!!! Sigh --- beautifully photographed -- irresistible [or were you able to?].
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness these are so adorable! I can see how it would't take much of these before you would put on a few pounds!!
ReplyDeleteI don't know Genie - munching into a pink pig!! look at those cute little faces and their pink ears - could I eat one? Non!
ReplyDeleteThose are really elaborate, and yummy, I'm sure!
ReplyDeleteWhen she was little, my daughter Kate used to collect all things "cochon." But when we were last in Paris, she opted for macarons too. (I'm sending her a link to this blog post though!)
ReplyDeleteHmmmm..... very sweet but also very delicious.

Sweet Miss Piggy! How very cool!
ReplyDeleteJM -- Merci! I think that Miss Piggy would be insulted as these did not show her best side - hah!
ReplyDeleteSmell the sugar!
ReplyDeleteRandy -- I could have a sugar high/low from these I bet... worse than a doughnut!
