  18. How cute! I have never seen anything like the piggies. Yesterday, in the last box in the garage I found all my French recipes from when I took lots of cooking lessons at different places in Paris (when we lived there 10 years ago)...time to start cooking again.

  24. With the amount of walking you do in the city, you could probably have had a dozen of these and a box of macarons, and still lost weight.

  25. The first time I was in Europe....many, many moons ago...I was sure I was going to gain weight because I did not hold back...I would have tried one of each, and then had the macaron!!! I actually came back having lost 5 pounds...I figured it had to do with all the walking I did!!! (And of course, the fact that I was only 30 at the time had nothing whatsoever to do with it!!!)

  27. Delicious is the word to describe the picture. Why are there so many women in France that are so thin(skinny)? Do they just look and not eat!

  28. @Jean...I believe there's a diet book that is titled French Women Don't Diet...or something to that effect...the premise is that their proportions are much smaller (like half what we tend to eat here in the states) and they walk everywhere....

    I also saw a documentary once about cheese...they compared American cheeses with French cheeses and the digestibility in mice...the french cheeses were digested thoroughly...due to little or no processing as we have here in the states...we also have allowed literally thousands of chemicals in our "system", whereas, European countries allow far fewer...toxicity levels are a big part of what is stored in our big ol' fat cells!!!

  33. When she was little, my daughter Kate used to collect all things "cochon." But when we were last in Paris, she opted for macarons too. (I'm sending her a link to this blog post though!)

    Virginia -- We will have to have one on the next visit just to satisfy our curiosity, all in the name of science, of course!

    Liz -- Most French pastries are as good as they look. My only disappointment is a French meringue which is a huge mountain of overly dry, crumbling hard sugary meringue. I thought it would be like "forgotten cookies" but it was not. I could not even eat it which is extremely rare for me!

    Clueless -- The chocolate with powdered sugar would probably win me over also

    biebkriebels -- I would think that the "body" is marzipan but I am not sure about the filling

    Anni -- I have not had marzipan in some time but think I should try it again

    Starman -- I am going to remember this and will use it for justification for "pigging" out on my next trip - hah! Merci, mon ami.

    Chieftess -- I have not ever gained weight on a trip to Paris for that very reason. Also, when you are trying to see and photograph so very much, it is not like you are lolling about eating all day - hah!

    Jean -- They walk everywhere and just for the record... they are not all thin (don't tell)!

    Chieftess -- You are right about the book. I did not know that about the cheeses... must go back for scientific research!

    Alicia -- The French pastry chefs are quite creative and if you ate many of these it would be quite difficult to "walk off!"

    I came over from Randy's blog for a visit. I've never been to Paris... though there are a lot of place I've never been- but I think I'd consider traveling there just for these pastries! :)
