The long shadows of winter are perfect for casting shadows on the tomb walls. The twisted bare tree branches reach up in contrast to the crystal blue sky over Père Lachaise.
Bonjour Genie ~ this is a different looking Pere Laschaise to my visit, but beautiful in another way ~ you have caught the shadows perfectly. xx "All Things French"
Luckily, you had a bright blue sky! The same picture with grey clouds or in B&W would have a very gothic mood! The shadow of the cross is telling a lot..
Quelles belles ombres, Genie. PL may be even more photogenic in winter, with bare branches. Jack -- this place is on my "post-bucket list"—that is, my kids will bring my ashes to Paris and scatter them here (among some other fave spots).
Fantastic capture, Genie! I really like the way the cross motif repeats from the cut out window and then the shadow. Looks like you had a perfect day for this photo shoot! Glad the spooky branches didn't grab you!
Ah Pere Lachaise. On a trip with our teenagers..each person was allowed to select a sightseeing destination. My daughter wanted to see Morrison's grave. My husband grumbled the whole way..and then was intriqued by the place. You have jogged my memory. Great shot!
The cemetery is a sign of death. The sunrising in the east is a sign of new life. The tree in the background looks like a deer with magnificent antlers and it is looking up to heaven. Another picture well lit. You're good.
Harriet -- It is even better with its full plumage but it worked for this setting... I'll look for it again when I return
Bill -- You are wonderful... I can tell that when I am stumped for a way to express what I am seeing that I should give you a call... Merci, my friend!
Randy -- Merci, and some days in Paris you find none but in their place a misty atmosphere... have a good week!
Genie, simply stunning x
ReplyDeleteJ'apprécie beaucoup le parallèle naturel entre la croix incrustée et celle qui se dessine en ombre.
ReplyDeletePhoto très intéressante.
Bon week-end, Genie!
All fairly grave shadows, so to speak.
ReplyDeleteVery wintry, bleak, cold-looking. The kind of day you want to pull your overcoat tight around you, as the wind pierces right through the cloth.

Interesting shapes Genie, the contrast of the spidery branches and solid tomb structures make a really strong composition.
ReplyDeleteBest Wishes!
I love shadows. You have captured something very special!
ReplyDeleteWonderful evocative image this morning.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous picture! How I love walking through Pere Lachaise among those tombs and trees!
ReplyDeleteOh that cross on the wall is wonderful. What a beautiful day you had. When I went it was cold and wet. Not a shadow in sight.
ReplyDeleteHope you got home safely last night!

ReplyDeleteI like this one. Very simple, but effective. I have never been to Pere Lachaise. It needs a higher spot on the bucket list.
