La Porte
While on a pâtisserie hunt in December during a soft snowstorm, we happened upon this beautiful old door with this interesting door-knocker. If I have 500 photos of café chairs, then I have 1,000 doors in Paris. Based on our June trip last year, I think that mon amie Marie has that many photos of blue doors alone... perfect!Oh, and we found that little pâtisserie which I will show you tomorrow.
Beau lion! There are also lions all over doors here, too. This one doesn't look too happy to let you take his photo! :)
ReplyDeleteOh yes, blue doors! I saw them everywhere the last time I was in Paris!
ReplyDeleteBibi -- At least he was harmless! The wood on the door was exquisite.
ReplyDeleteVreni -- Oh my, I just took a quick peek and you do have at least one beautiful blue door. Thank you for visiting and commenting on my blog... glad that you love Paris also.
Very unusual and beautyful door-knocker! my friend Cat(blog "the door hunter") from Prague would love it, she collects doors too!
ReplyDeleteLovely! I wish it was my door, ours isn't pretty at all!
ReplyDeleteTrès elegant, I loved this detail. The lion is something very powerful!
ReplyDeleteLéia
Bien sur ... Blue house doors and crypt doors as well! Love the lion and am looking forward to tomorrow ... Miam, Miam!!!
ReplyDeleteAh...the days of beautiful architectural details...sigh...
ReplyDeleteMalyss -- Taking photos in Prague was a real challenge to my trigger finger. I even shot the cobblestones and curbs... and of course the doors. I will check out her blog. Merci!
ReplyDeleteCynthia -- A "not pretty" door in Paris beats a nice one most any place else. (Did I mention that I am a die-hard Francophile?) Seriously, so many of the ordinary doors in Paris open to hidden courtyards and/or entryways
Léia -- Merci, mon amie. I took 4 or 5 shots of this and selected this one to post because it showed the lion's face
Marie -- Yes, you do have quite a collection and there are many, many shades of blue crypt doors in Père Lachaise.
Hariett -- I did wonder about the age of this door knocker and whether it was a restored original or a very nice reproduction. Still, it is "old" by our American standards and lovely all the same!
I always take a million photos of doors whenever I am in Paris too! They have such character.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the lion is on the door. He looks pretty fierce. I'd hate to be that close to him in real life! (I wouldn't want to be his lunch.)
ReplyDeleteAndi -- I imagine that with your travels you have quite a collection of door photos! Nice to see you.
ReplyDeleteMiss Sadie -- You are just too cute to find yourself as lion-lunch. I think Bear will protect you, my dear.
Love this fierce lion. I'm looking forward to ALL your Paris doors, Genie!
ReplyDeleteGenie -- I love architectural details and this lion is lovely. I don't think it matters if it is old or new-ish. What matters is the mood and effect it stimulates.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, one could devote a blog just to Paris doors. When «Louis» lived in Paris, he started a photo collection of them.
ReplyDeleteJack -- I think you are right... It was beautiful and striking when I shot it and it is not quite proper to over-analyze... I think I do that quite often (hehe)
ReplyDeleteLouis -- Well, it would be interesting to see how many beautiful, blue, red, black, unusual, Art Deco, etc doors we have... and how many duplicates or triplicates we would have.
You have a great eye for details. Nice shot!
