Cold and lonely

In Jardin des Tuileries, we found this group of chairs and made a few observations... It appeared as if a group had recently gathered here amidst the snow. Had they shared a frigid picnic of sorts or an apéritif de la neige? There are two other interesting details. See if you can find them.

In the background is the statue known as L'Ami de Personne
On the back of one chair is a pair of eyes

  1. The first thing that hit me was the eyes sticker because I took a picture of it in le Jardin des Tuileries two months ago. I just checked my photo and it's the same eyes sticker but on a bench and not far from where you took this. :)

It would be great if all of the Paris bloggers and bloggers who love Paris could sit together in those chairs!

  2. Sufficient chairs for 15 personnes.

Fifteen people ... and a bench ... in the snow ... in Paris ...

OOO, yes, I like that idea of James' ... set it up, Jeeves!!

  3. Noticed the eyes straightaway, but a 2nd detail? Actually, I count 16 chairs, but 13 of them pulled in around the bench—could this be the aftermath of a
    réunion de sorcieres??

  4. If I could publish this picture on my second blog(about benches) , I would call it "a king among his subjects"!
I agree for a bloggers meeting there!

  5. James -- I honestly did not see the eyes until I decided to post this particular photo... I was interested in the chairs and the arrangement around the concrete bench... so funny that you captured "the eyes" as well!

Julie -- I agree with you and James that a rendez-vous would be fabulous, but can we reserved that setting for a bit warmer weather?

Alexa -- It is the statue in the background, a big hulking statue of unidentified species. The plaque says L'Ami de Personne (1992)

Malyss -- Email me if you want to use this photo for your benches blog... I am off to check it out

Birdman -- I have just checked out your chairs and agree that we see too many gray metal folding chairs in the US at least... love the colors of course

  6. I spy my favorite sculpture...Deitman's Nobody's Friend! Of course he is our famiy's friend for sure as we've all sat in his "hand"! :)

I agree with James, a Paris lovin' blogfest right here. I'll bring the glasses. We'll get Peter to spring for the champagne, you bring the bread and cheese and ...It will be some fun!

  7. No more snow pictures. Now you have to do flood pictures.

  9. Starman -- If I were there you would be seeing flood pictures. Virginia will be there in about a week so she can do some on-site reporting for us

o2 -- Love your post and discovered from the date that you took yours only about a week after mine... what a difference! Merci for mentioning my blog with a link.

  12. Randy -- Don't worry... I took the photo and did not notice the eyes

Gerald -- Thank you for noticing that tiny little detail, but as a regular Weekend Reflection participant, I would not expect less. Glad you like it!

  13. i zoomed in close and spied the eyes on the back of the chair - how cool!

i saw the statue as well in the background, but what intrigued me more were the two wrapped trees (?) surrounded by the wooden fencing...........!

  14. Amanda -- I think that it might be a species which is under attack by virus such as the Dutch Elm disease but not sure... You are verrrrry observant, mon amie!

  15. "Thank you all for making this meeting. On the agenda will be our next winter's jobs as deck chairs on a cruise ship in the south of France. . ." :-). Hope you've been surviving the frigid temps.
