Père Lachaise is so large that I cannot imagine ever seeing all of its narrow paths, marble cherubs, forlorn flowers on tombstones, and memorials to its famous and not-so-famous inhabitants.
I thought that the shadow on the left looks like a man in a bowler hat. Perhaps I should have looked over my shoulder.
It sure does! Wow. I love Pere Lachaise cemetery. Did you see "Paris, je t'aime"? There's a Pere Lachaise sequence in it.
ReplyDeleteBonjour Genie! How very narrow those little lanes are! My sister & I spent a whole day here & still didn't see all the sites we had on our list. You've captured the wonderful atmosphere.

A very intriguing place to wander and investigate. I would need an extra camera card to hold every picture. Yes, there is most certainly the shadow of Alfred Hitchcock in this cemetery...so fitting a place for him!

Eeeek -- I didn't realize someone was following us! Wonderful photo. You captured the play of sun and shade very well.
ReplyDeleteLove the perspective in this composition, you are very talented with your camera and perfect subject for the day!

Think of it as a friendly shadow watching over you.
ReplyDeleteI say it's the ghost of the person who's buried in that crypt—he probably wore just such a chapeau!
ReplyDelete(I love all your PL shots, Genie.)
oh was "l'homme noir" following you - trying to see what you were photographing?!?
ReplyDeleteCool shot and gives an inkling as to the size and density of the crypts.
Bibi -- I need to watch that again!
ReplyDeleteDianne -- I've been there in the warm and in the cold and in the sun and in the rain. I would not want to be there in the dark!
Liz -- You can get mega-memory cards now so it should not be a problem. On my last trip (Spain) I downloaded my card to my computer every night and backed it up with a USB drive. I would cry if I lost any photos!
M -- There are so many things that you do not see until you look at the photos. I honestly did not see Mr. Hat until I posted this last night -- creepy!
Léia -- Merci beaucoup and I could say the same for you! I really love all the shadows and patches of light in this lucky shot.
Starman -- Friendly? Okay, I'll go with that idea....
Alexa -- Oh! Do you think so? Let's get out of here! I should have posted this on Halloween but as I said to Marie I just didn't see it....
Holly -- L'homme noir? I hope he has good intentions.
I always thought the French "one way street" was the one on which one rode to receive the "kiss" from Madam la Guillotine.
ReplyDeleteBut perhaps I am in error.
Bear -- I did not know that! Interesting that I selected those words.... I wonder if Mr. Hat has anything to do with all of this scary talk?
ReplyDeleteExcellent! Love the light here. The day I went it was dark and rainy. No lovely shadows like yours.

Not a man in a bowler hat, but a ghost. I think I know him and he's a very nice guy, if a little two-dimensional and very transparent.
ReplyDeleteI think you are being watched, c’est certain.
ReplyDeleteI love this shot. I MUST get back to France and continue looking for “Hoenot” burial sites. In some of the ones I visited, I was touched by the way many had portraits of the deceased loved ones carved in marble. This photo is beautiful....and the perspective is superb. I like the reflection of the man in the hat....the other Genie
