Pont de Bir-Hakeim

Pont de Bir-Hakeim

Built between 1903 and 1905 this steel bridge has two levels,
the lower one for vehicles and pedestrians,
and the upper level (the viaduct) supports Métro Line 6.

The iron sculpture framed by the yellow poplar leaves
is one of four on the main arches of the bridge.
This one was designed by Jules-Felix Coutan and represents Labor.

This was my first visit to Pont de Bir-Hakeim,
and I will share more photos with you soon.

Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Belleville

Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Belleville

Built between 1854 and 1859 in the Belleville area,
it was the first Gothic Revival Churches in Paris.

These historical grounds are built on a foundation of
an early Bellevillois chapel of 1548 which was
replaced by the "first" Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Belleville church
in 1635.

During the construction of this current structure, the foundation
stones of the earlier churches were uncovered.

Jardin des Plantes - des flâneurs

Jardin des Plantes

In a misty rain
you will always see people in Paris parks.

This young maman was walking her baby
briskly between the showers of the afternoon.

Parc Montsouris

Parc Montsouris

Montsouris is located in the 14ème arrondissement
at the southern edge of Paris.

Opened in 1869 the park is one of the four large parks,
along with the Bois de Boulogne, the Bois de Vincennes
and the Parc  des Buttes Chaumont, created by Napoleon
and Baron Haussmann at each of the cardinal points
of the compass around the city.

It was filled with Parisians enjoying
a sunny clear November day.

Palais Royal - vide

Palais Royal - empty

The Palais Royal was empty
with no tourists posing on the Buren Columns.

After the period of mourning,
the garden and the gates were open again.

Jardin des Tuileries - Fermé

Jardin des Tuileries

The gates were closed for a few days
and the emptiness beyond was absolutely eerie.

Grande Galerie de l'Évolution

The four levels of the galery hall and the glass ceiling
were "painted" in the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge of the French flag.

Jardin du Palais Royal

The fountain is at the heart of
Jardin du Palais Royal.

I have seen it in every season and in every month,
and it is always a changing panorama.
Once, it was even frozen over with children throwing
chunks of ice!

Look for me there on Friday as I feel
the limestone crunch beneath my feet
and gaze down the alleys of trees.

Exposition - Hôtel de Ville

Hôtel de Ville

The exhibitions at Hôtel de Ville are without charge.
This was a wonderful exhibit of Jean-Jacques Sempé in 2012,
France's most celebrated cartoonist.

The lines are not usually long unless you are there
during the first few days of an opening.

Place de la Concorde

Place de la Concorde

Statues and fountains, an Egyptian obelisk, a view of the Eiffel Tower,
the Grand Palais and the constant circulation of traffic...

Oh, and lest one forget, this largest square in Paris
was the scene of many executions.

Des feuilles rouges et orangées

Cimetière Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois

Cimetière Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois

Cimetière Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois

I was determined to visit the grave site of the reknown
dancer, Rudolph Nureyev, at Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois.

How lucky we were to arrive just as all the Ginko leaves
were making a carpet of gold to welcome us.

Carrousel de l'Hôtel de Ville

The double-decked carrousel
at Hôtel de Ville
is best enjoyed after dark.

City Daily Photo Theme Day - Ephemeral

Jardin du Luxembourg

The autumn bloom of chrysanthemums are ephemeral
but our memories are imprinted with the many shades of gold and orange.

On the first day of each month, the City Daily Photobloggers
from around the world interpret the "theme" and November's
theme is "EPHEMERAL."  Take a look here.
