Jardin des Plantes
One would think that this green parrot (?) had escaped
from an enclosure, a pen. However, we sighted
an entire flock of them, numbering 12 or more.
They enjoyed the November berries immensely.
Is Paris temperate enough to support
what I imagine to be a tropical species?
UPDATE:
"If you have ever spotted apple-green birds the size of a turtledove with bright red bills during one of your strolls around Paris, you are neither colorblind nor sleepwalking. You merely sighted one of the many rose-ringed parakeets (Psittacula krameri) that have made Paris and its vast suburbs their home."

Parrots in Paris!
ReplyDeleteI find it fascinating and surrealistically beautiful :)
Good morning, Genie, and thanks for this wonderful post.
What a treat Genie. I love the way is so well camouflaged amongst the leaves and berries.
ReplyDeleteThe parks in the big cities here are full of it. Only in Amsterdam the population is now counted on more then 10.000 birds and they make a lot of noise and expel the native birds. Yes it is becoming a bit of a problem here.
ReplyDeleteYes you see them in Europe in various cities already. They are an exotic addition to Amsterdam as well. Global warming?
ReplyDeleteLindo!
ReplyDeleteVery nice!
Hello there, birdie!
ReplyDeleteThey couldn't manage in the outdoors here.
SC and biebkreibels, I have updated the post as I researched the birds today. They are non-native birds who "flew in" to Orly and CDG airports in the 1970s. If they are not a nuisance now, they surely will be as they crowd out the native birds.

Oh, and there is a link on my post now to read more about them and the Paris issues.
Pardon !
Had heard about them but had never seen any. Well-sighted and well-captured too!
ReplyDeleteAmazing place. Thank you for having posted something beautiful. Greetings from Indonesia Car Rental In Bromo Telkomsel +62821 41555 123
