Square René-Viviani

Square René-Viviani

In the midst of this square is this odd sculpture
known as the Saint Julien fountain.
It was constructed by Frenchman Georges Jeanclos in 1995
and based on a tale of a curse by witches (with many characters),
a tale told and retold since the Middle Ages.

It is an interesting square near the Seine and Notre Dame.
I can hear the crunch of the "Paris gravel."

  1. My eye, was captured by this sculpture.

Thank you for saying the name of it. I can look up more on it, now.

    Merci...

  2. So, I looked. And.... I have been in that area. :-)

When we went to Paris in 1999, one of the things I wanted to visit, were filming sites, of a long running television series ("Highlander, the Series")

One of them, was the Church of Saint Julien, which was "Darius' Church"... In the series. "Darius" being a beloved character. Of course we sought it out and I went in. :-)

Before getting to the church, we passed "Shakespeare and Co." too. Also featured in the Series.

So putting it all together, I probably went very near, to this interesting fountain sculpture.

Thank you for this post. Which set me on this little trail of discovery, of a delightful time, in my past.

  3. I have seen a lot of Jeanclos's ceramic work but never such a large bronze as this. Nice one.

  5. Tessa, so glad I could accompany you down memory lane...

RedPat, now I will have to search again, this time for more of Jeanclos' work.
