Galeries Lafayette


The iconic art nouveau glass dome is illuminated in purple this year as it celebrates the beginning of its 101st anniversary.  The theme is thankfully child-centered at Galeries Lafayette for Christmas 2013, and there are many animated windows to delight children and adults alike.  


As you walk into the rotunda area filled with counters of perfumes, the sheer size of the dome will take your breath away.  In certain department stores they frown on photos but this shot is replicated by every visitor to Galeries Lafayette apparently with the blessing of management.

    Now, I feel as though you have all made the trip with me to GL. Oh, how I would love to be right there without another person, no noise at all just to take it all in.

    For the record, that is the hottest store I have ever been in.

    Oh, and you must not photograph the shoes as they will immediately jump to your side. My friend, M, did get a photo or two before they could stop her. She did not know.

    Although I have read about the dome I am not sure I understand how the glass is infused with the royal purple light. The jewel-tone is stunning.
