Cathédral Notre-Dame de Chartres - un détail

Chartres Cathedral
12th Century Gothic


The 300 narrow, winding steps to the bell tower 
reward the adventurous climber with a quiet and lofty view of Chartres 
as well as intricate details.  


The cathedral artisans carved images of beasts and flowers 
in places where they would not be easily seen by anyone but God.

    «Louis» really enjoys your Sunday church series. What a fabulous detail from Chartres, his favorite of the cathedrals he has visited. He didn't notice this detail when he climbed the steps in the bell tower. What exquisite carving!

    hee hee...When he got to the top of the steps, the bell began ringing! His eardrums rang for two days after that! :-)

    Wonderful detail, Genie! It is now 30 years since I was in Chartres. My, how time flies. I am impressed that you can use a fine"detail" photo like this now, instead of holding it for the monthly theme day.

    The black and white is but an illusion as the color remains in this photo in a soft whisper.
