Sainte-Chapelle
Palatine chapel
Certainly the magnificent jewel-toned stained glass windows are eye-catching,
but every inch of the wall surface and the vault is intricately colored and decorated.
Fragments of the original paint would indicate that the colors of the 19th century restoration pale by comparison. The 13th century designers selected colors that were closer to the vivid hues of the stained glass windows.
Stunning!

ReplyDeleteOui, elle est magnifique!
ReplyDeletePretty! Bon dimanche.
ReplyDeleteAlways makes me smile when a comment pops into my head and someone else has said that very thing. Ditto to Sylvia. Stunning is right. Bon weekend, dear Genie.
ReplyDeleteThe colours and the lighting are just perfect.
ReplyDeleteMagnifique! Bellísima! Exquisite! There aren't enough superlatives for this magnificent church nor for your excellent capture of its beauty!
ReplyDeleteI wish I'd taken this photo -- it's exquisite. This is my favorite of the Paris churches and every time I return I am in awe. I've posted on it twice and the posts just don't do it justice. Splendid.
ReplyDeleteSending Sunday smiles your way.
I'm having the same reaction I have whenever I step into this place—I'm dumbstruck! So I'll just say merci beaucoup for sharing this beautiful image, and bon dimanche to you . . .
ReplyDeleteSo intricate!
ReplyDeleteBreathtaking!
ReplyDeleteThoroughly delightful! I never cease to be amazed by all the wonderful pictures you produce.

Stunning.. gorgeous. What to say? :) This photograph looks perfect to me, Genie. What a wonderful place.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful details and colors.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments. This photo was taken when my husband and I visited last spring. It had been a few years since my previous visit and the vivid colors were as stunning as I remembered from my very first visit. Even the many tourists could not dampen my spirits that day. If you visit, I would suggest a week-day visit and plan to be there when it first opens. Besides that first-morning light is divine in Paris.
ReplyDeleteBises,
Genie
A little hard to find for the first time visitor, but a must see. Like finding yourself inside a kaleidoscope. If you can attend a concert here, definitely go.
ReplyDeleteBreathtakingly beautiful Genie..next time for sure!
ReplyDeleteYes...stunning!!! You captured the drama of the lighting!
ReplyDeleteMalgré toutes mes *virées * à Paris, je n'ai jamais visité cette chapelle si célèbre. Prochaine fois.
