Baguette Monge et saucisson sec

Eric Kayser's
Baguette Monge

Certainly there are many fine boulangeries in Paris but for me, the perfect baguette can be found at Eric Kayser (on Rue Monge).  You must ask for the Baguette Monge, and if you have good timing, it will be still warm from the oven.
They are a little over 1€ - what a bargain.

For a little piece of heaven, step outside, pinch off the top,
and take a bite while the steam fogs your face.

miam-miam

  4. You make me feel so hungry. There are many simple delights in this life and some crusty bread and a spicy salami is one of them. Add a glass of red and a good friend and life is complete.

  13. Bonjour! Thank you for another beautiful post. I have been to Eric Kayser on rue Monge twice (lucky me!) and just asked for the traditionelle - do you really ask for a baguette Monge? If so, what is the difference?

  14. I never get up early enough to get a baguette directly from the oven. Quel dommage!

  15. Miam! This is my favorite Paris baguette. Just throw in a hunk of brie and I could live happily on nothing more. Well, maybe some wine . . .

  16. Joe, you are right, and this photo is a reminder to me to enjoy the simple things and good friends.

Charlotte, I recognize the shape and ask for it by name. I am sure that if you had a "regular-shaped" baguette that it would have been excellent as well. If it looked like the photo it was probably a 'Monge.

Elizabeth, you will not be disappointed!

Starman, at this Eric Kayser the ovens run all day and they are taking out "hot" bread around 5 to 6pm as people line up outside to make their purchases. No need to get up early!

Alexa, oh yes, the brie... and the wine!

Oh, dearie, I am not even hungry right now and I am salivating!

    Bises,
    Genie

  18. C'est vrai que le cliché n'est pas loin, mais ce pain semble être comme du gâteau.
Je me dis souvent que nous Français, avons de la chance.

  22. The Kayser bakery on rue Monge is my daily bakery. My experience is that they are always warm from the oven---the exception is room temperature but still wonderful. We plan ahead for Tuesdays when they are closed. I know---life is good. :)
