Artist on the sidewalk...
He was gathering quite a crowd, some taking a quick look and moving on. Others lingered to watch the process and progression of this transient work. I wondered if this was an artist who would create a three-dimensional work, but did not stay to its completion. Two days later, it was gone.
So, to my French speakers, is this artist "sur" le trottoir?

Bonjour Genie,
ReplyDeleteJe ne suis pas spécialiste mais je parlerais d'Art de Rue... de Street-Art...
Ou encore d'oeuvres éphémères...
Belle journée et bonne semaine,
Pierre
When I was young there were a lot of these kind of street artworks.
ReplyDeleteI really admire an artist's
ReplyDeletededication, patience, and creativity.
Hello Genie:
ReplyDeleteIt makes one wonder why someone can spend such time on creating a work of art when, by force of nature, it will be washed away without a trace before too long. Perhaps it is the transient nature of this 'street art' that has its appeal?
When something like this is taking place, it is fascinating to see the reactions of passers-by.Never was people watching so interesting as on moments such as this.
Oui, SUR le trottoir, et DANS la rue.Art éphémère..
ReplyDeletewow these street artists are so talented! Awesome capture!

Great color composition and street shot of this artist. Like it Genie.
ReplyDeleteI love to see artists at work. Do you give them money after you watch or take photos? I'm never sure. I'm impressed you knew trottoir
ReplyDeleteseveral months ago an artist drew on the sidewalk along Broadway near my home .. neither the hurricane nor the snow storm .. not even pedestrians walking over it has done more than make it fade slightly .. i continue to admire it daily as i walk to the subway
ReplyDeleteThese fascinate me—like Tibetan sand mandalas that are meant to be ephemeral. Though I imagine this artist wouldn't start a project when rain is imminent. :~}
ReplyDeleteNice find. This is like a small version of our annual Chalk Festival.
ReplyDeleteHe's very talented! I love street art. But all that hard work for just two days.. I suppose that's its nature..
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I'm always fascinated by street artists, especially those who are consecrating their time to this "art ephemere". So much patience and dedication for such a short lived result! Luckily, there are photos to capture the beauty!

Lucky! They're getting very rare, those artistes ephemeres.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Alexa. These are beautiful and the three-dimensional ones are really amazing. And yes, it's 'sur' le trottoir.
ReplyDeleteAnd 'dans la rue' and 'sous la neige/pluie'!
ReplyDeletethose side-walk artists are amazing.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's as simple as...he can't afford a canvas.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work but I'll bet his fingers get sore after creating one of these.
ReplyDeleteSur le trottoir, dans la rue, et sous la neige... merci beaucoup!
ReplyDeleteJane and Lance, I think that you are correct. The people-watching possibilities abound!
I have only seen one other street chalk artist in Paris. Perhaps it is because the showers are so frequent.
Bises,
Genie
I do like these street artists and find it hard to pass by without popping a coin in their hat. The brighten up a grey pavement and their talent is often amazing.
