Place des Victoires

Place des Victoires

Inspecting the equestrian monument of Louis XIV dressed as a Roman emperor,
I almost missed the woman high on the balcony.

bon weekend,
and do not go out on a ledge

  1. Isn't it funny how often we see details in our pix when checking them on the computer, that we didn't see there when we clicked the shutter.

I am often asked if I got good pictures and I now always answer "I don't know and I won't know until I can see them on the computer screen."

  5. Gorgeous photo. We stayed near Place des Victoires on our last trip to Paris, I loved walking through there in the evenings. A stunning place.

  6. This reminds me of an ice sculpture I saw yesterday. Sadly, melting but once mighty.

  7. Great picture! Maybe she was a house guest who wanted to have a quick smoke without having to go downstairs. :-)

  8. I'd like to think that the woman on the balcony doesn't take her great view for granted! Oh, what I'd give . . .

  9. This reminds me of the amazing 60's film Blow Up starring David Hemmings and Vanessa Redgrave. He was a photographer who took a picture and had no idea that he had caught a disturbing image in the corner of the frame. He enlarged it and enlarged it and finally a secret was revealed - I won't say what, it's too fine a film - but I feel this way about your photo - she is standing OUTSIDE the railing, isn't she? My mind is envisioning unhappy endings!

  10. It's obvious the woman is NOT standing outside the railing. You did miss whatever that is that looks like it's about to roll down a hill or something, on the right-bottom of the photo.

  11. The monument is wonderful, but i'm more drawn to the architecture of the building behind. I adore that syle! Mansard, i think. It's just so perfect.. at least to me. :)

  12. A wonderful regal statue surrounded by beautiful Mansard architecture. I love Place Victoires ... have walked through here so many times going to and fro from my appartment.

  14. Last January Holly and I stayed only a block from Place des Victoires, and I wish that I had been able to have un café with all here that have passed through this place.

Sim, I remember seeing that movie a long time ago, a real thriller I believe.

I think that the balcony is quite narrow but at least it has a high rail. It was cold that day so perhaps she was out for a smoke. I wonder if she saw me. As Jack indicated, I did not see her until I took a closer look at this photo.

I am still not sure about the dome in the background (looking NE on Rue d'Aboukir). Any ideas?

    Genie

  15. I'm not sure why Genie, but this image made me really want to be in Paris, I have to try and overcome my fear of flying this year.
