Église Saint-Augustin
(seen last Sunday here)
This photo was taken from the rooftop terrace of Printemps. In addition to the thousands of rooftops and chimneys, the majestic Saint-Augustin stands high above most every other building. The church is 100 meters long and the dome height is 80 meters (262 feet).
This Byzantine structure, completed in 1871, was one of the first large buildings in Paris built around a metal frame. It pleases me greatly that the dome is rouge.

Elle rivalise avec les tours de la Défense.
ReplyDeleteA brilliant image V. The terra cotta chimney pots on the roof tops are an eye catcher as well as the dome. I encourage everyone to click on the image for a large view. The clarity and detail is terrific.
ReplyDeleteOops. It's G not V. Blush.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to go on the terrace of Le Printemps on my last Paris trip, but I was out of time. Your picture is great.
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful sight for we Francophiles Genie, merci beaucoup..
ReplyDeleteHello Genie:
ReplyDeleteWhat an absolutely spectacular view across all of those wonderful roof tops. How we should love to open our windows onto something similar; alas, we do not!!
Have a very happy and restful Sunday.
I recently discovered that I love also roofs images! :) And I'm delighted by your picture, a beautiful composition with the church and the roofs!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!

These looks like a whole new city. Now I'm thinking why haven't I visited all these places? I'll put the rooftop terrace at Printemps on my list.
ReplyDeleteThat's quite a site to take in. Postcard!
ReplyDeleteTerrific view of the city and such a great shot for the day, Genie! I love the roof tops and the dome is awesome! Hope you've had a great weekend and that you're ready for a busy, new week!

J'ai travaillé longtemps dans ce quartier que je connais bien. C'est vrai que l'église Saint-Augustin est très imposante.
ReplyDeleteTa prise de vue est superbe!

Genie, it's sooo beautiful, you captured a lovely palette of colors...I just wrote a small post about wanting to be in Paris...but I will need to wait...Wistfully, Rita
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful church and I love the rouge dome too! Great shot from way up high! :)
ReplyDeleteHow's the knitting coming? I've ripped out more stitches than I ever thought possible! Ha
Imposing structure rising amidst all the other rooftops.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that it is so prominent. I didn't know of the church before.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure the dome is rouge? It doesn't look even close to rouge to me.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind words over at my place - and I share your love of France having studied and lived there in the past!
ReplyDeleteJe vous souhaite un bon weekend!
A bientôt!
A gorgeous view...oh how I miss the Parisian rooftops...
ReplyDeleteThe rouge makes me happy too! ;)
So happy to see your dear message chez moi, lovely Genie....thank you so much.

Thank you for your comments today. This view is a different from my usual Sunday posts, but I thought that you would enjoy seeing a church from another perspective. I love the details of close up, but you do need a larger range to fully appreciate its size.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week ahead!
Bises,
Genie
Looks like an artists rendition of the view!!! Post card style!!!
ReplyDeleteNice shot Genie, yes my eyes went straight too the colourful chimney pots too....!
