The Parisian
la vie quotidienne
The moment is frozen in my memory.
A quick glimpse across the rooftops on Rue Saint-Honoré,
Monsieur on the telephone, cigarette in hand,
framed in a window,
the architecture of centuries past,
oblivious of my delight in capturing this scene.
What stories we could write

Those fleeting delightful moments! :) Love them, and love this photo. And i just want to ask you, Genie.. i hope you don't think me a stalker when i look at several of your older posts at a time? I do it when i grab a few moments online.. :D
ReplyDeleteOh, this is fantastic! And, yes, what stories we could write indeed! I do love this one, Genie, and the thoughts are already racing through my head! What a great shot!! It surely lit up my evening!! Hope you have a great week!

That's a great shot!
ReplyDeleteJ'aime beaucoup...

Très bien, Genie! Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)
ReplyDeleteI remember the time when we had no mobile phone and were obliged to stay INSIDE to call someone! :o)
ReplyDeleteMonsieur Gerard was puzzled. He had arrived at his attic apartment on Rue Saint-Honore only half an hour earlier. The sheets were still draped over his leather lounge chair and oak coffee table protecting them from the layers of French dust that had settled over the past 12 months. Where it came from, he never knew. The parquetry floor had not been cleaned and to his dismay the water ran a rusty brown when he turned the tap. Where was Margot? She always arrived the day before he did. Monsieur Gerard lit a cigarette. He intended to find out!
ReplyDeleteNIcely captured. We can find photography opportunities everywhere, can't we?!

Except for the cell phone and the clarity of the photo, this could be a pic from the 1950s. Nice shot. I'd love to be able to lean out my window and see his view of Paris rooftops.
ReplyDeleteHe looks very business like. Maybe he's conducting a deal.

Excellent capture of every-day life! Maybe his wife doesn't let him smoke inside? You are right .... many, many stories ...
ReplyDeletelooks like a serious conversation.
ReplyDeleteI love these slice-of-life photos.
ReplyDeleteSorry to be absent a bit from blogging. Recent death in the family has been taking a lot of my time.
i love shots like this, lets my imagination run wild
ReplyDeleteI think you and I could do a series of portraits from windows in paris! Good catch.
ReplyDeleteCan you hear me now????

I wonder what monsieur is discussing on the phone...could he possibly be making a back room deal? Or, maybe a date with a certain madame? :)
ReplyDeleteSuch fun thinking up scenarios for these moment-in-time photos that you capture so well, Genie! (He stayed home from work (or left early) to accept delivery of an important package, and he's calling to find out why it hasn't been delivered already.)
ReplyDeleteIt's good to see the French anti-smoking campaign is having such an impact!
ReplyDeleteAn archetypical picture for Paris. Mais, oui. C'est très bien!
ReplyDeleteWe could have a contest about this shot . . . what is the backstory? I think the apartment has lousy reception and he needs to lean out the window to get a signal. Or, he was talking with his lover and didn't want his wife to hear. Or . . . . .
ReplyDeleteA perfect souvenir! Who could ask for more? Just the sort of moment/sight/capture I would love best on a trip as well.
ReplyDeleteNice photograph, Genie!
ReplyDeletePerfect catch!! So much to look at--all those lines [vertical, horizontal, diagonal] and shapes [square, rectangular, parallelogram] are a feast fior the eyes. And, smack in the middle, a living being engaged in a mundane act [speaking to his mistress?]. I'm curious how this might be in B&W with the contrast kicked up a bit -- eye-popping I imagine. Happy Holidays Genie!!
