Alone in Paris, and happily lost, this huge double-door portal took my breath away
with its delicate detail high above the heads of les flaneurs.
How sad to see the whole view below,
and I will be back to see if the graffiti has been removed.
Can you imagine how gorgeous this door could be with some attention,

The details are wonderful, Genie—and the no-talent tagger should be strung up by his paint-spraying thumbs!
ReplyDeleteThe graffiti is obscene!
ReplyDeleteI hate such graffiti! The door is really wonderful, so high and well decorated.
ReplyDeleteThat bee detail is so nice and so different. I've never seen anything like that before. Great shot!
ReplyDeleteHello Genie:
ReplyDeleteYes, this is a wonderful door detail and reminds us of the bee and hive detail on the Old Post Office Savings Bank building in Budapest. There the bees and the hives were to symbolise savers putting their money away for safe keeping!
We are often depressed about the graffiti in Budapest too. Such mindless defacing of something so elegant.
Magnificent carving. I wonder what symbolism the owners saw in this piece; wealth, wisdom, satisfaction in hard work, royalty. So many possibilities. The grafitti is such a shame. I remember being horrified to see grafitti on the walls in Venice four years ago. So annoying.
ReplyDeletewow the door is magnificent indeed and the picture with the details is so interesting, they are adorable details!

Such attention to detail.......for both you and the beehive creator. It looks very delicate,is it actually stone?

Beautiful architecture! How awful that someone would write graffiti on that gorgeous door. I'm with you...I think with a bit of cleaning and polish that door would be absolutely stunning!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful piece sadly ruined by the graffiti. Let's hope the entrance is cleaned up and restored. It will be interesting to see what you find when you return Genie.
ReplyDeleteTaggers in Paris make my head spin. I love this sweet hive above. I hope they don't figure out how to deface it as well!

That certainly is a beautiful door. I can see it is the same like over here Grafitti, terrible.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully carved. Best not say what I'm thinking about these people who vandalize other's property.
ReplyDeleteThey may remove the graffiti, but you can pretty much forget the polishing.
ReplyDeleteI love this Genie...a shame that it is almost hidden from view, but at least it's safe from taggers. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could have such buildings like this now instead of yet more concrete and steel blocks!
ReplyDeleteAnother reason to dislike taggers. What a grand door. I wonder where it leads...........
ReplyDeleteLove the beehive. I've seen these hives over doors all over Romania and some in Belgrade. Looked up what they meant and must do again. Agree with Alexa about the 'artists'.
ReplyDeleteJane and Lance, I am enamoured with bees and bee symbolism... How I would love to see those doors in Budapest!
ReplyDeleteBibi, and also those in Romania and in Belgrade!
Lets string up the graffiti vandals by their thumbs!
Ruby, this is all carved from wood and I just wanted to get up to the beehive to brush the dust and grime away from the crevices, to bring out the life in that wood again... hummm, a project
Thank you to all. I have been saving this shot, hoping that the quality of my photo was worthy of your viewing.
Bises,
Genie
Of course I love your eye for detail, the bees are lovely. And the graffiti is of course horrendous. I hope it's cleaned off by now.
