Église Saint Germain des Prés III

In November, blog friend Vreni (Vreni's Vienna Daily Photo) and I spent an afternoon visiting in Paris.  My Nikon had broken on my last day and I had only my very small point-and-shoot to record our sightings.

We spent some time in Église Saint Germain des Prés, so very dark and ancient with its Gothic and Romanesque architecture.  We found this one bright scene beyond the church interior, a courtyard with bright pink (rose foncé) roses in bloom.

(Travel tip:  always have a back-up camera)

bon dimanche

  1. Lovely capture as always, Genie! I love the colorful flowers that do light up the sense of darkness that old buildings seem to have! Hope your weekend is going well!!

  11. A point and shoot is all I ever use......could be why you have so many more followers than I do! Having a backup camera is a great travel tip!

  12. Very picturesque! I don't know which is worse to forget your camera altogether or have a broken one. Sigh...

  13. That's why I always have my phone with me. It takes better pictures than my digital camera.

  14. What a charming little courtyard you found! An addendum to your excellent tip: I slipped on wet Paris cobblestones once and broke both my cameras—too bad I didn't have an iPhone back then, to back up my backup.

  17. Doesn't everyone want a door like this with flowers just at the window!

  18. About the camera, it was broken beyond repair due to the rough life I had given it from the beaches of St. Barth's to the glaciers of Patagonia. What's a camera for if not to be used fully! The contacts for the memory card were probably corroded and it would not take a photo at all. I replaced it quickly and it has already been to Paris twice and many other journeys "beyond."

My backup camera was bought for underwater shots which makes it perfect on a day when the torrents of rain make it impossible to use my primary camera.

Virginia, the church you are thinking of is Église Saint-Séverin with a large courtyard and the palm-tree pillars.

Have a wonderful week, mes amis!

    Bises,
    Genie
