As a part of les Invalides, this royal chapel was completed in 1708,
inspired by St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.
The interior of the dome was painted by Charles de La Fosse with a Baroque illusion of space seen from below.
The dome can be seen from all over Paris, but I saw it for the first time two weeks ago.
What an opulent and stunning sight.
bon dimanche

Genie,
ReplyDeleteThe interior of this dome is gorgeous! I've never seen anything like it! Beautiful image!
Genie, what wonderful memories you have brought me this evening! I have been there and will never, ever forget the experience! Thank you, mon amie!

I've been under that dome on both my visits to Paris. I'm surprised that you hadn't been yet (although I am well aware of how many amazing sights there are to see in Paris). Next visit, I'll be nearby seeing the Rodin museum but probably won't go in again.
ReplyDeleteUn panorama vraiment sublime... Quel travail incroyable et j'apprécie particulièrement le souci du détail.
ReplyDeleteGros bisous et merci pour cette très belle photo.
Beautiful dome. Spectacular image. I like the way you have captured it. You've probably heard this before but someone told me once there technique to photograph a dome was to set the camera to timer and place it flat on the ground beneath the dome. I've tried it. Works really well. Happy travels.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! It's amazing to think that people have been in awe of this space for centuries.
ReplyDeleteBon dimanche,
Ruby
I've yet to see it from inside. It's stunning and has taken its place on my famous list for the millionth time.
ReplyDeleteBon dimanche,

I'll say! Wow!
ReplyDeleteThe great thing about Paris is that there is always something on the famous 'list of Paris sights to see'....and so many that we love seeing over and over again. Thanks for sharing your photos with us!
ReplyDeleteOn our first trip to Paris this is where we went right after the Eiffel tower. You have captured its beauty perfectly!
ReplyDeleteNever been inside, will have to do it one day.
ReplyDeleteGreat memories! Especially when we were up-graded to a penthouse on the corner of Tourville overlooking this golden dome.....
ReplyDeleteLove the colors...
Wow. We never made it inside Les Invalides. It is indeed very opulent and quite a wonderful sight.
ReplyDeleteTwo weeks ago? Really? Aren't you the one who keeps telling us to "look up"?
ReplyDeleteStunning is the perfect word for this dome.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Genie—not sure I've ever seen the inside of the dome. Your composition is stunning!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Genie. My neck hurts just thinking about taking this picture.
