Mardi Gras!

Today is Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday, Carnivale....
It is last day to eat galette des rois, the last day of festivities before Ash Wednesday and Lent.

For us, far beyond Paris, we will be enjoying the last days of merriment, parades, and parties with hats.

  4. What a glorious sight. I'm sitting here eating a salad as I type, so I feel I can afford to soak up as many of these eye calories as I wish to. Lovely, Genie.

  7. The pastries look delicious! In Austria we eat Krapfen, doughnuts filled with marmalade. You can see them today on my blog ;-)

  8. We're having a family get-together this evening at our daughter's place. Pancakes and other delights, I expect.

    Then comes Ash Wednesday.

  16. Fortunately, Genie, this is not part of my culture so I intend to keep on eating whatever looks good.

  17. What will become of all the unbought/uneaten king cakes? I think that most will be consumed without a second thought. On Wednesday morning there will be many people chomping on a moon pie with their morning coffee, a moon pie caught flying through the air - hah!

As much as I love the period between Epiphany and Mardi Gras, I am glad to see it go and to get back to "normal" life, green salads, and healthy eating.

Now, the hats? I will miss them!

    Bises,
    Genie
