The Sempé retrospective exhibition runs through March 31st at Hôtel de Ville. It is free and photos are permitted! Mary (Mad about Paris), Virginia (Paris Through My Lens), Peter (Peter's Paris), my daughter Holly and I all enjoyed the more than 300 original drawings. The soft light of the chandelier seen here is one of several projections on the walls of the exhibit hall.
If you have not been, there is still time. It is not to be missed!

You made a nice photo of the layout of the exhibition. I am not familiar with the artist . . . another challenge for Google.
ReplyDeleteIt does look like a terrific exhibition and I would love to be able to see it! I do love the layout! Hope you have a wonderful week, Genie!

J'adore Monsieur Sempé and I often use his illustrations during my French conversation classes. My students love him too! I am envious. The exhibit will be over by the time I get back to Paris. Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun group. Wish Alie and I had been there!

ReplyDeleteI really appreciated that we all decided to go there!!
ReplyDeleteAh Paris. So much to see and do.
ReplyDeleteAnd may it be noted I was the only one that thought it would not be permitted to photograph so I have nothing to share but the OUTSIDE of the Hôtel de Ville! Tant pis pour moi! :(

It looks like a wonderful exhibition. Pretty chandelier!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely exhibition!!! Were the drawings for sale???
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat! (And also that you all got to enjoy this together.)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely exhibition. We tried to get into the Hotel de Ville for an exhibiton but somehow managed to go on the day it was closed (when it wasn't meant to be). Something else waiting for next time.
ReplyDeleteIt does look nice! And somehow calm. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like an exhibit not to be missed. Wonderful photo.
ReplyDeleteFor those who might not know Sempé, he is remembered in the USA for the New Yorker magazine covers. The exhibit had both the original drawing/watercolor accompanied by the framed magazine cover... My favorites are the satirical pieces centering on Paris and French life. Just delightful!
ReplyDeleteI had to wait for the right moment to snap this shot as the free exhibit was very popular and crowded.
I thought about taking a stealth shot... There were no signs saying "no photos" and so, I just asked politely if it were possible to take photos without flash. V, I think that we all took photos and I do not know where you were while we were all snapping away...
There were no originals for sale here but there were many items: books, cards, prints, etc.
I have another photo or two to share another time.
Bises,
Genie
if I'd known there was an exhibition of Sempe, I would've visited this place. ^0^
ReplyDeleteI like his drawings esp on Le Petit Nicolas.
I wanted to see the exhibition last November, but then I read about the long lines and was discouraged...
