Hmmm, this is one time where I think the beauty of the setting is diminished in B&W. You lose the multiple shades of green, the touch of lilac in the forefront, the shades of blue in the fountain mosaics and the sparkle of gold in the swags decorating the arches. No, I definitely like it better in living color! Lovely, restful spot ... Wish I was back there!
The gardens are just gorgeous Genie - I have to say the colour photo is delightful with the lime green foilage complimenting Le Petit Palais' soft neutral tonings
Looks quiet and peaceful, would love to have a lunchtime sandwich sitting there. Personally I prefer the colour shot, and keep my b&w for urban shots... Regards
Thank you for your quick reaction , but now I must admit color is better. I thought perhaps to much on the old parisian prints from Brassai, Doisneau etc. Thanks
We have so much black and white and GRAY in the northwest, I have to admit I love the color shot. Still, there are times when a B&W shot is the perfect way to go. But today, I love the color! So much beautiful green!!! Marvelous captures as always, Genie!
Although I am a big B&W fan, in this case I am not sure.. something is lost, I agree with M Just returned from a short trip to Paris.. wonderful sunshine, perfect ! visited the catacombes for the first time.. glad I did it but would prefer not to return.:-)
Merci for all the comments and ideas. I thought that I liked the color but would defer to your considered opinions.
Anonymous, I have not been there but might consider that and the sewers of Paris... as long as I can take photos (hah!)
This is a beautiful courtyard in any season and the architecture of the building (Charles Girault) shows better with less greenery. If you have not been here it is a delightful museum and a terrace for a light lunch in this very courtyard.
Beautiful! I'm using the color version as my desktop wallpaper. Is there any chance that this courtyard could be photographed in autumn? I'm sure it would be spectacular. Thank you for the lovely photography.
I think the color version is my favorite - with the b&w there is not enough contrast in values - but the color photo is so rich in it's greens - and leave it to you to include the lovely lavender flowers on the lower left as a spark! So lovely, and tranquil!
This is so beautiful!!! I would love to visit. Happy Wednesday!!!

Une endriot tranquille et régénérateur.
ReplyDeleteHard to believe we're in the center of a big town!So beautyful!
ReplyDeleteLittle hidden gardens are a treat in a city.
ReplyDeleteAn idyllic spot away from the traffic. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully framed Genie, was wondering what the tree in the right hand corner might be, it has the look of wisteria about it?
ReplyDeleteJ´adore! Bises Hana
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful - I would love to sit for a moment in this beautiful place. x
ReplyDeleteWhat an experience it would be stroll through these lush gardens and glimpse this columned palace through the trees. Looks like a wonderful spot.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried this picture in black and white . I think that gives it more dept.
ReplyDeleteOh, such a lovely setting to sit and be still. Such a beautiful collection of sweet moments captured.

i'm going to try imagining myself right in the midst of this peaceful oasis.
ReplyDeleteVery nice shots Genie. I like the black & white photograph during the week and the color for the weekend! Have a good week.

ReplyDeleteI vote green, Very lush and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI like black and white photography a lot but in a lush landscape, nature (au naturel) wins, particularly in summer.
ReplyDeleteI ididn't recognize this place! I've only been here once and it was in late November. It wasn't this lush. It's beautiful in color!!!

My vote is for color. Seeing all the green foliage is so restful. Did you sit under the veranda and have lunch there?

I prefer the color version of this garden, which is more 'à l'anglaise' rather than 'à la française'.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your quick reaction , but now I must admit color is better. I thought perhaps to much on the old parisian prints from Brassai, Doisneau etc.
ReplyDeleteThanks
Wow, now that is amazing!!! I am all about the black and white photos but in this case you miss out on those lush and vibrant greens. Spectacular!!
ReplyDeleteFor this shot I prefer the color. It would be a shame to miss out on all that green! :)
ReplyDeleteI don't like black and white pictures. The world is not black and white, it is colorful and no one is more glad of that than I.

Very nice! Don't remember ever being there.
ReplyDeleteThe beauty of the color in this particular picture is my vote.
ReplyDeleteThe B&W shows the different shapes and textures nicely - but the lush greens in the top photo are hard to beat.
ReplyDeleteIn living color please *winks* What a beautiful spot! Vanna
ReplyDeletei say go green! the lushness of vegetation surrounding that building is incredible!
ReplyDeleteGenie, this is simply breathtaking!

I love gardens and this one has so many colors of green! That's why I prefer the color photograph.

Rather prefer it in color. Hard to believe you're in the middle of a big city, isn't it? Great shot, Genie.

The foliage must make this a charming and relaxing oasis.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place! I prefer the color because it shows off the wonderful green.
ReplyDeleteI think I forgot to mention that I was standing on a pier when I took the seagull's picture. :)
