Café Marly

Out on a night shoot with Marie and Janeen at the Louvre, we stopped by Café Marly for a peek and were able to wander through the various empty dining rooms for some photos. The few diners remaining had enjoyed the open air terrace on a warm April night.

The trio of paparazzi moved quietly through the rooms with only the clicking of shutters and an occasional giggle.

  3. Confound those paparazzi types. Always intruding into places where they shouldn't be. Like formal dining places under high-arched, vaulted ceilings.
And worse, giggling while they go about their work.
Besides Brigitte Bardot has already left the building.
I'm glad I don't know any of those unseemly scandal-mongers.
On the other hand, there are mild-mannered and delightful people like Genie, and Marie, and. . . .
Strange; their names are the same as some of those appalling paparazzi.
    Such a sad coincidence, that.
    But a lovely picture, nonetheless.

  5. Hello Genie,

I hate paparazzi's, this photo remembering me on a visit to New York last year in a same kind of situation. There's an atmosphere like what Iam saw in Napels Italy, the Comorra etc.
    Your picture is a beauty;)

have a nice weekend and thanks for the visits on my Blog,

    Greetz,

    Henk.

  9. I was there once... I wanted to have only a drink, but it was noon and as I really didn´t want to eat anything I had to leave it, they wouldn´t serve me only some mineral water.

  21. It looks more like a library reading room than a café.

  31. It's gorgeous isn't it? I was lucky enough to enjoy luncheon on the terrace there a year ago. My uncle picked it as the spot he wanted to meet for lunch. It was wonderful. But then when you start lunch by picking the bottle of bubbly you're going to have, it's likely to be wonderful. Such a gorgeous setting. The wait staff were interesting too. The boys wore traditional French waiter uniforms, the girls were allowed to wear whatever they liked- and they were all gorgeous, with what appeared to be large clothing budgets. I managed to take a surreptitious photo of one of them as she glided past. Such a wonderful memory. Thanks for reminding me.

  33. This is quite a place, Genie. Tres elegant.

  34. Mary Ann -- I wish that you had been there too!

Sylvia -- The more the better (as long as we don't get thrown out!)

Bear -- You would love Janeen also, so full of laughter!

    Richard -- Certainement pas

Henk -- We were very discrete and it was deserted in the interior rooms... Merci!

beau gosse -- Glad to see you again! Merci for saying "hi" over at Eric's!

    jb -- It could be!

Ann -- It is over-the-top divine but not overly fussy. The prices? Well, that is another story

Vreni -- Yes, I imagine that they are not too keen on mineral water but you can stand right here at the entrance for a photo

    ReplyDelete
  35. Léia -- It is a very photogenic spot for sure. Merci mes amis!

dive -- "Papping" -- You are a man of interesting words and I like this one! It makes me ache to return also, mon ami.

biebkriebels -- Oh, there was no "acting" involved. We were living the life!

Valery -- The lighting is soft and dreamy for such high ceilings. Merci!

brattcat -- Merci... elegant in a comfortable way

Amanda -- As Vreni noted, they are not too keen on "low cost" service but perhaps un café and dessert would work

Virginia -- We were empowered with wine and chocolate. We did ask permission

    ReplyDelete
  36. Carol -- It is facing the Pyramid at the Louvre.

Sam -- I think "palace" would be appropriate... Merci!

Birdman -- Yes, and hurrying to get the full moon too!

Pam -- The architecture of Paris is varied and stunning and this is a prime example

Grace -- Oh, we did have permission, though we went all the way down this hall to the doorway beyond to ask permission.

Starman -- I was thinking "castle" myself, but reading room would be appropriate also

  37. Oh what a gorgeous little place! Très chic! I love the shape of that arched hallway.

  38. The light in this photo provides the breath and those magnificent repetitive arches provide the beat to this wonderful image. Congratulating Genie.

  39. J'adore cet endroit, il faut que j'y retourne...

  40. I want to be there/here almost more than any other place in the world.

  41. Shelley -- I think that "café" is a loose term for this restaurant

martine -- C'est parfait! Nous devrions y aller.

Saeid -- Many thanks for the comment and your visit

JM -- I can see the similarities in these two elegant places. I have only been on the terrace at Caffé Florian... I have photos but none of the interior.

Malyss -- Oui, but I do not even think of this place as being on Rivoli as it appears in a world of its own in the Louvre.

Harriet -- The interior rooms are spectacular and one has a view through windows onto the Cour Marly in the Louvre.

    Montreal -- Merci!

    Suz - Merci, mon amie!

Alexa -- You are definitely included!

Louise -- What a wonderful memory with your uncle.

    Randy -- It is stunning!

Jack -- From what I have read the food gets mixed (at best) reviews but you are going there for the view and atmosphere.

Joe -- Merci... I do love the cascading arches here too.

    ciel -- Bien sûr!

Brittany -- Merci, and I think that it is particularly beautiful at night

  42. CMA -- Moi aussi! You mean it would be better than OK and AL? Uh, yes, and not as hot!

Sorry I have been absent for a while, I drove across Canada.

All of your pictures make me jealous! I so wish I was there.

  46. The Melbourne GPO has a similar architecture and is very popular with amateur photographers like me. Lovely shot, Genie.
